  • This perfume is a delight, I love it and I keep thinking its creator is the same as others of my favourites; is it coincidence or is that my trend?

Venezia Vintage is a magical fragrance with prodigious fruits, beautifully sweetened by a splendid interplay of amber and vanilla. Tonka and sandalwood give it that unmistakable sparkling touch. It’s a fruity, sweet, very singular perfume: a juicy yet brilliant wonder; not heavy at all but with a powerful body. It’s so romantic it takes you to dream awake through the streets of Venice. A masterpiece by Biagiotti and Almairac that doesn’t try too hard, yet its magic among the canals and gondolas makes you long for those different 90s versus these 2021s. It’s a small one that grew big: it seems shy, but once you spray it, you realise perfumery of the 80s evolved dignifiedly into the 90s. Venice Merchant suits this tender lady well; a story of Shakespearean loves, worthy of honourable feelings, passions that can lead to the cruelest things like death, having begun with soft glances and romantic letters. This perfume is just that: it opens tenderly, enchanting, and as minutes pass, it unfolds to offer itself as a unleashed perfume bomb, yet never loses its ingenuity, pure romance. A fantasy of fruits that doesn’t reach narcotic levels, because it represents a lovely lady a bit bashful but very love-struck, with a burning heart and soul before love. Its trail and projection are spectacular; with just two sprays you can spend hours navigating the canals with a lantern in hand and a red cloak. Poor little thing, so cute and blushing, and they delisted her…

I have no idea how this gem ended up in my collection, but it’s here now. It’s a proper classic bombshell; smelling it, I thought of a niche composition: lots of jasmine and fruits over a very prominent base of civet and vanilla. The opening is a bit animalic with the jasmine, but the dry-down is top-notch; the jasmine lingers with a divine, delicious vanilla. It’s exquisite, elegant and seductive. Let’s be honest, if a girl wore this, I’d melt with embarrassment. Absolute perfume masterpiece, delicious.
