About Verdict
Verdict from Birra Fragrances: an aromatic twist on the woody aquatic
Verdict is a men's fragrance from Birra Fragrances, and it arrived in 2014 as part of the Woody Aquatic family. Its structure is simple on paper: bright citrus and marine notes on top, then a drier, more aromatic heart.
The top notes are clearly grapefruit, bark and marine accords. Closer to the middle, bay leaf and gaiac wood take over; the base is built on ambergris, labdanum and resin.
The opening is notably fresh: grapefruit gives a bitter edge, bark dries out the citrus, and marine notes supply a saline, sea-spray effect. There is a crispness here rather than a sugary smoothness.
Bay leaf makes the middle interesting. It has an aromatic, vaguely spicy quality that sets the scent apart from standard blue aquatics. Gaiac wood adds a smooth, faintly smoky texture underneath, so the heart does not feel hollow.
The base has the expected ambergris warmth, but the labdanum is what turns the drydown toward a leat hery, resinuous amber. Resin then ties everything together in a balsamic close.
Birra Fragrances classes Verdict as a Woody Aquatic fragrance, and the published accords agree: amber, woody, fresh spicy, aromatic, marine, citrus, balsamic and animalic. Each stage of the pyramid can be mapped onto those accords.
Unlike many fresh launches, Verdict seems more interested in balance than impact. It makes a clear case for a woody aquatic that stays dry, herbal and grounded.
Verdict is for men who want a woody aquatic with an aromatic backbone and a warm, leathery drydown, rather than an airy citrus fragrance.
If you like the idea of wet sea air meeting gaiac wood, labdanum and ambergris, Vercit offers a neat, wearable result.
