  • Something strange happened: in winter, straight from the bottle, it felt fresh and alcoholic, almost summery. But in the middle of summer at 41 degrees, it’s a different beast entirely; it smells of cold, with no hint of heat. The vetiver, supposedly the star, is barely noticeable; instead, the amber and tobacco dominate with those dense, dark notes typical of Lutens. Someone who knows Arabia de S.L. could easily confuse it; it certainly has those dates and nutty tones. The trail was weak, lasting only a few hours, probably due to the heat; I’ll try it again in autumn to see if it improves. It’s strange that it has so many votes on the notes but zero reviews before mine.

  • Something odd happened: I smelled it in winter and it seemed summery, fresh and alcoholic, but in summer it’s something else entirely, ideal for cold or fresh air, with no warmth. Regarding the notes, although it’s said to revolve around vetiver, that note is secondary; what stands out is the amber, followed by tobacco and other dense, unfresh elements. I didn’t detect the vetiver, which was overshadowed by the amber and the darkness. With so many notes, I’ll summarise it like this: it smells like Lutens, especially as it develops. If you know Arabia de S.L., you might confuse it, as it also features nuts and dates. In terms of trail and longevity, at today’s 41°C, it was moderate to low for a few hours and then almost imperceptible for another three or four. Perhaps the heat affects it; I’ll test it in autumn to confirm, as it surely lasts longer in the cold. It’s peculiar that it has so many votes on the notes but no reviews before mine.

Smells like classic barbershop talc: clean, soapy, and with a soft vanilla base. It has a sweet touch from the resins, but keeps that familiar powdery vibe. Sounds masculine, though not exclusive. Reminds me of Habit Rouge, Santa Maria Novella Vetiver, or Tabac Original; if I had to compare, it’s more similar to L’Eau. As it dries, it feels creamy, like powdered tobacco blended with sandalwood soap. Although it’s named ‘Vetiver’, that note is hardly noticeable. Truth be told, it could have been called SMN Talc and would have felt more fitting. Rating: 2/5 – Well made, but not for me.

Smells like classic barbershop talc: clean, soapy, and powdery with a soft vanilla base. It has a sweet touch from the resins, yet retains that vintage powdery vibe. It’s masculine, but not exclusively for men. Reminds me of Habit Rouge, Santa Maria Novella Vetiver, or Tabac Original; if I had to choose, it’s closer to L’Eau. As it dries, it becomes creamy, like powdered tobacco mixed with sandalwood soap. Although it’s named ‘Vetiver’, that note is barely noticeable. Honestly, it could have been called SMN Talc and would have felt more appropriate. Rating: 2/5 – Well made, but not for me.
