  • One reads every crazy thing here, I know every nose is a world and tastes are subjective, but saying this has no violet is madness; ionone is present throughout almost the entire first hour of the fragrance and even afterwards it is perfectly felt in the background. As I always say, we cannot judge a fragrance by an atomisation or a simple decant that barely gives enough to wear it properly (I am one to apply a minimum of six sprays of anything, often more than ten). Prices also play a part, and this Jo Malone perfume is one of the most expensive I have seen from the brand, although I have not researched deeply. This is a beautiful, well-made fragrance; it is incredible how Anne Flipo achieved a perfect blend of two notes that, for me, are opposites and not because they cannot coexist, but because one would devour the other; in this case, the oud, a strong and intense note, yet here, as the house has accustomed us to, it is nothing risky, a very wearable oud, very Western (although the composition is Oriental ambered) that blends very beautifully with this ethereal, velvety, slightly sweet violet note with talc-like traces. Everything feels a little dry; there are no traces of humid oud, let alone animalic. Gradually the composition reveals its amber side, sweetens slightly, and also shows very, very subtle smoky tones. The violet and oud never disappear, allowing the amber (also not one of the most difficult) to come and go as it pleases without stealing their spotlight. The performance is not particularly outstanding, which is something that can be criticised, especially considering its price, but in the first hour after application it is perfectly perceived and gradually fades until reaching four to five hours. I think it could perform better in enclosed spaces and, logically, in temperatures that are not extremely cold nor hot. It could be perfect for transitional stages of autumn or spring, and although I have only used it twice, both in enclosed spaces, I might update my thoughts on its behaviour later, but knowing the extremely hot climate of my country, I know the heat will devour it before three hours.
