Sometimes you come across olfactory surprises like this modern gem from Voile Blanche. It’s all about the details, and that’s where it shines: it steers clear of the typical aquatic vibe thanks to those subtle nuances. It begins fresh with an ozony air, but quickly settles into a fantastic floral accord featuring jasmine, water lily, peony, and sweet fruits that dominates right through to the dry down. Afterwards, it blends with green notes and that perfectly achieved seaweed and sea scent; it’s as if the sea’s seaweed were blooming flowers. The salt, water, sand, and brine are perfectly noticeable. As it dries, it becomes musky with hints of dry, warm sand, featuring a rare spicy effect akin to nutmeg that brings it to life. Longevity is moderate, around two or three hours, after which it clings to the skin with a slightly synthetic yet acceptable side. It’s unisex and I’ve loved the concept; I appreciate Voile Blanche’s rarity as an original composition that shines on its own. Note: 9
