Jean-Louis Sieuzac
Jean-Louis Sieuzac is a perfumer known for his contributions to the world of contemporary perfumery. He began his career in the fragrance industry with the company Roure, which is now known as Givaudan. During his time at Roure, Sieuzac had the opportunity to work with some of the industry’s perfumers and developed several fragrances.
In 1976, Sieuzac created his most famous fragrance, Kouros, for Yves Saint Laurent. The scent sparked controversy due to its strong animal notes, and some claimed that it encouraged the consumption of illicit substances. Despite the controversy, Kouros became a cult classic and is still appreciated today.
Sieuzac continued creating fragrances for luxury brands, including Bel Ami for Hermès, Dune and Fahrenheit for Dior, and Opium for Yves Saint Laurent. He also collaborated with Shiseido, Oscar de la Renta and Eden Classic.
In 1998, Sieuzac joined Florasynth, which later became Symrise. During his time at Symrise, Sieuzac continued developing perfumes and contributed to the company’s success.
He is described as reserved and modest about his work. He prefers for his fragrances to speak for themselves and believes that a fragrance should be judged solely by its olfactory qualities. His contributions have made Jean-Louis Sieuzac one of the most influential perfumers of his time, and his creations continue to inspire and captivate fragrance enthusiasts.
