Sagamore is an enigma that blends and shuffles itself, a polyhedral gem that surprises by surviving the Eighties, that era of olfactory madness. It begins with a radiant bergamot, petit grain and clary sage chypre that shines like crystal, but soon the lavender adds a metallic and green twist. The true protagonists are the flowers: jasmine, carnation and geranium creating a lush garden, almost feminine, although vanilla, cinnamon and sandalwood trim those edges as it dries. It is not aggressive, but a discreet elegance thanks to that cold, dry lavender which, together with the creamy vanilla, pays homage to Caron. It turns the Spartan classic into a delicious, unique aromatic fern. Rarer than Betamax, it would be a worthy niche today; it has a soft sillage but correct longevity, an unavoidable milestone for collectors and an unforgettable landscape I met thanks to Jerry Drake.
Finally, I tried this Lancôme Sagamore and it is a complex beast. It opens with citrus, lavender, clary sage and petit grain giving a lovely sensation, so it is already worth it. Then come first-class flowers followed by wood. I love it, although it is a bit soft in longevity and sillage; I sprayed 7 or 8 times so it would be noticeable. It is discreet, refined and oozes class and elegance. I do not know if there is a current version to decide whether to make do or hunt for this vintage delight. A beautiful proposal.
Finally, I tried this Lancôme Sagamore and it is a complex beast. It opens with citrus, lavender, heliotrope, and petit grain, giving a lovely sensation, which is already worth it. Then come high-quality florals followed by woods. I love it, although it is somewhat soft in longevity and sillage; I applied 7 or 8 sprays to make sure it was noticeable. It is discreet, refined, and oozes class and elegance. I don’t know if there is a current version to decide whether to settle for it or hunt down this vintage delight. A beautiful proposition.
I tried this years ago in Santiago de Chile and it is truly special. It opens with intense, vanilla-infused lavender, sometimes fresh and green with vegetal notes. The bergamot and lemon add a refreshing, ‘orangey’ tone as I call it. Then the geraniums and roses blend with the vanilla and patchouli base, creating an interesting, unconventional, masculine EDT with class and style. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a chypre like this; it’s excellent, what a pity it’s no longer available. Thank you.
