Born in Geneva, Switzerland, René Morgenthaler began his career in the world of fragrances with training in chemistry at Givaudan. His passion and talent were quickly recognised, leading to his selection for the newly established Givaudan Perfumery School. René honed his skills as a student and laid the foundations for his future success as a master perfumer.

René Morgenthaler’s career at Givaudan enabled him to rise through the ranks, holding roles in Switzerland, Argentina and the United States. In 1989, he became Senior Vice President and Chief Perfumer at Givaudan, where he continued to stand out until 2001. Subsequently, René took on the position of Global Leader for the Fragrance Catalogue at Givaudan Access, an innovative online business for fragrances and flavours.

Although René retired from Givaudan in 2003, his retirement was short-lived. His expertise was in high demand and he soon shared his knowledge with companies such as Mane, Fragrance Resources and Manheimer. In 2009, he co-founded Smart Fragrances LLC, where he continues to create innovative and captivating scents as a Master Perfumer.

René Morgenthaler’s focus in perfume creation is characterised by his ability to combine traditional techniques with modern innovations. His extensive experience in the fragrance industry and his exposure to different cultures and markets have given him a unique perspective on the creation of scents. René’s passion for his craft is evident in every fragrance he develops, resulting in timeless and contemporary aromas.

René Morgenthaler’s most popular perfume creations include Avon Far Away, Calvin Klein CK Be, Bond No 9 Hamptons, Calvin Klein Obsession Sheer and Gale Hayman Delicious. These fragrances showcase his diverse skills and creativity, as well as his ability to cater to the different preferences of perfume enthusiasts around the world.
