From the outset, a forgotten jewel of perfumery. Why is no one talking about this? It’s so good that after buying a 50ml bottle, I managed to get another 100ml, which I might never even open, but that’s another story. Opinion is an amber-vanilla fragrance that opens with a spectacular explosion of aldehydes and something smelling of very green, unripe mandarin. At first, it seems it might head towards the path of a Shalimar or a Fougère Bengale, but it doesn’t. Soon enough, you detect a floral heart where I perceive a spiced carnation. The sweetness of the honey is perfectly counterbalanced by the citrus and green notes. Perhaps there’s cardamom or coriander… we don’t know, as the pyramid that’s reached us is very brief. There’s also a leather and oakmoss in the base, which gives it a certain character of an old-fashioned barbershop perfume. It’s impressive that everything reaches us with meridian sharpness in three layers: green citrus, amber-honey, leather. This accord will remain so for many hours. It’s truly a charming fragrance, which also gives a certain resinous sensation (myrrh?) or Coca-Cola gumdrop feel, but always without losing seriousness thanks to a complex and very masculine base. It can also remind us a little of perfumes like Heritage. It’s an elegant and serious fragrance, but with certain echoes of an oriental perfume. A genuine marvel.
