Cher is a truly elegant brand that always gets it right, yet this one simply doesn’t hook me. It resembles L’Interdit, certainly, but not Rouge. In its quest to be novel, it ends up with a spicy note that makes it unsustainable and powdery, something I detest in fragrances. However, the longevity, packaging, and marketing are a perfect 10/10.

  • I love this perfume, and yes, it’s similar to L’Interdit Rouge (which I also own), though they aren’t identical. L’Interdit Rouge is more sparkling, opens with a spicier ginger kick, and is darker (with an almost smoky facet), whereas Onyx Elixir is much softer, more linear, and not quite as explosive (it has chilli that gives a bit of a burn along with the pepper, but lacks that ginger spice, and you also sense a fresher orange). If you don’t like traditional Cher Onyx, this might still appeal to you (I don’t like either the Onyx EDP or L’Interdit EDP). I think it can be bought blindly; this flanker is a bit more versatile than the original (though if you prefer stronger perfumes, you might still prefer the EDP original). On me, it has moderate projection and lasts about five hours on the skin, which is quite good for the price. It’s a perfume I plan to keep in my collection forever, especially because I love the scent and don’t feel guilty using it, something that definitely happens with L’Interdit Rouge given its price.

It smells very rich and delicate, reminiscent of Onyx but much softer. It retains a lemony note from the initial spray until it dries down, giving it a certain freshness and making it slightly citrusy; it’s quite usable and likely to please anyone. I tried L’Interdit Rouge, and the truth is, I don’t see them as similar; I don’t perceive the spiciness others feel. For my nose and on my skin, it’s a soft neroli with lemon and delicate vanilla, lasting five hours without a huge sillage.

  • I adore it, and yes, it’s similar to L’Interdit Rouge (which I also own), though they aren’t identical. L’Interdit is more sparkling, spicier with the ginger, and has an almost smoky dry-down, whereas Onyx Elixir is softer, more linear, and less explosive (it has a chili note that stings alongside the pepper, but lacks that ginger spice and features a fresher orange). If you don’t like the traditional Onyx, you might still enjoy this (I don’t like either the Onyx EDP or L’Interdit EDP). I think it can be bought blindly and is a more versatile flanker than the original (though if you prefer stronger scents, you might opt for the EDP). On me, it has moderate projection and lasts about five hours, which is quite good for the price. It’s a perfume I’ll always keep, especially because I love the scent and I don’t feel guilty wearing it, something that definitely happens with L’Interdit Rouge due to its high price.

  • It is pure bliss. At first, it’s slightly spicy; at times it feels unisex and has neroli notes that I adore. It’s a perfume with a lot of personality. I wouldn’t buy it blindly and wouldn’t recommend wearing it on very hot days. It would be perfect as a night fragrance. The sillage and longevity are incredible. Without a doubt, Cher’s best perfume.

  • I was eagerly awaiting this as it generated so many expectations. At first, I found it strong and very spicy, almost peppery. It dries down slightly to a woody note, but on my skin, it had quite a linear behaviour and an abysmal longevity of barely half an hour. The first thing that came to mind were those strong, spiced, animalic lady perfumes from the 80s. It’s the kind of scent a lady with a towering bouffant, stiletto heels, and a leather jacket would wear. In its modern version, it’s very similar to L’Interdit but costs and lasts much less. I think it would be an excellent option if you like that scent but can’t afford it. That said, the black bottle is gorgeous and the perforated cap is incredibly comfortable. It’s not my style, but without a doubt, it’s an EXCELLENT perfume. The perfume industry in Argentina is at an excellent level despite the lack of investment and our economic crises. Congratulations.

  • I like it, but it doesn’t fascinate me as it’s not quite my style :P. At times, I feel it’s unisex, as Cele says. I’m more attracted to it than the common Onyx because I sense more vanilla, and the spiciness balances the sweetness well. It’s wonderful for fresh or cold nights. This perfume dresses you up. The downside is that it’s a bit overpowering, and the spray area is cracking on me 🙁

Excellent value for money, perfect for going out at night and making an impression. It’s sweet, spiced, floral, and fruity—it has it all: a beautiful pear with spicy-sweet notes that dry down into a mysterious, sensual scent reminiscent of incense. The performance is another strong point: over six hours on the skin and a massive sillage at first that leaves a trail wherever you go.

  • TaeInBloom

I agree with the previous reviewer; it smells like incense, that smoky spice that accompanies neroli. In the end, I couldn’t tolerate that combination and removed it from my collection. It lasts about four hours and tends to linger slightly more on clothes and hair.

Oh my, what a delight. I just tried it and had to write this review immediately. It reminds me, albeit faintly, of Versace’s Crystal Noir, which I’m absolutely in love with and fits my taste (sweet gourmands). The ginger and pepper give it a unisex, sensual, and mysterious touch, perfectly balanced with white florals. Intense and dark, ideal for autumn/winter. Maria Cher has surprised me this time, and for the better. I liked the traditional Onyx too, but this is far superior.

  • This scent had me obsessed; it clung to me so strongly. I adored how intensely sweet it opened up; for winter, it’s a perfect 10.

Oh, what a delight. I just tried it and had to write this immediately. It reminds me, very distantly, of Versace’s Crystal Noir, which is my favourite perfume (I’m a sucker for sweet gourmands). The ginger and pepper notes give it a perfect unisex, sensual, and mysterious touch, beautifully balanced by white florals. It’s intense and dark, ideal for an autumn or winter evening. Maria Cher surprised me this time, and for the better. I liked the traditional Onyx, but this is far superior.

  • It truly keeps me hooked. Upon first spray, that orange note is brilliant—nothing aggressive—and then it deepens into something vanilla-rich with woody undertones. It’s warm and embraces you without suffocating. Although it’s marketed for night, I wear it by day and love it; it feels weightless. When I run out, I’ll definitely buy it again.

  • karenzapata

I find it super addictive. It starts strong with ginger and orange notes. Within seconds, I begin to smell the neroli, followed by an incredibly addictive vanilla scent. It has nothing to envy from designer fragrances. It lasts for hours on the skin and days on clothes. I own it and am certain I’ll buy it again.

  • karenzapata

It seems utterly addictive. It starts strong with ginger and orange, and within seconds the neroli emerges, leaving a trail of vanilla that is remarkably sticky. It has nothing to envy from designer scents. It lasts for hours on the skin and days on clothes. I own it and will certainly be buying it again.

  • With all the positive reviews this perfume has, I expected something completely different. As soon as you put it on, you smell something like Tutti Frutti bubblegum; after half an hour, that scent fades considerably, leaving a vanilla note that, personally, I don’t like much. It feels somewhat like a lady’s perfume, though it’s not bad at all; it’s quite nice.

  • It smells refined despite its price and origin. Perhaps even more sophisticated in its composition than one of the L’Interdit versions it aims to emulate. On my skin, at least, it feels sharper, less sweet, more serious and less playful. Naturally, the quality of the raw materials isn’t the same as those formulated for Givenchy, but I appreciate that Cher is targeting better-formulated perfumes with higher-quality scents (Zarcy Elixir is a wonderful example of this philosophy that I recommend trying). The scent quality and longevity are really good for the perfume’s relatively low price; its projection is also quite impressive.

  • I adore the traditional Onyx, but Elixir absolutely fascinates me. Ginger is a note I love, and here it is exquisite, playing beautifully with the neroli. It feels fresher and more wearable than the original, while the vanilla makes it, as others have said, addictive. Plus, it’s incredibly versatile for both weather and time of day, which is another bonus. For me, it’s a 10 from Cher for bringing us closer to the L’Interdit family at incredible prices. Excellent!

  • I love the traditional Onyx, but the Elixir fascinates me. Ginger is a note I adore in fragrances, and here it’s exquisite, playing beautifully with the neroli. I find it fresher and more wearable than the original, while the vanilla presence makes it addictive, as others have noted. Plus, I see it as very versatile across different climates and times of day, which is another bonus. Truly, for me, a 10 from Maria Cher for bringing the L’Interdit family to such accessible prices. Excellent!

  • Hello, what a potent and spicy scent. The neroli and pepper are very noticeable, but that opening with ginger and tea feels a bit unusual to me. Don’t buy it blindly unless you’re a fan of neroli or Givenchy’s L’Interdit Rouge (this is the dupe). Perfect for a winter night, extremely sophisticated.

  • A super intense and spicy fragrance; the neroli and pepper are very prominent, though I find the opening with ginger and tea a bit unusual. Not a perfume to buy blindly unless you’re a neroli lover or a fan of Givenchy’s L’Interdit Rouge (as this is the dupe). Perfect for a winter night, very sophisticated.

  • I thought I would like it because it has notes I usually enjoy, except for the vanilla. It’s too heavy for me; it makes me feel unwell. While it’s not a sweet fragrance, the blend of vanilla and ginger doesn’t suit my skin or nose. It has a very good trail and durability; I detect it well at night and in winter. It’s a perfume with a lot of body and personality, not for shy people because you will attract attention. I clarify that it’s not a bad perfume, but it doesn’t suit me, and I have an issue with vanilla in perfumes that causes me nausea.

  • Delicious perfume, but not for everyone… If you’ve tried Givenchy’s L’Interdit Rouge, this is an excellent dupe. It lasts quite a while on the skin and even longer on clothes. Excellent for evening and winter. It’s not a perfume to buy blindly, but I recommend it highly; it’s very economical and of great quality (keep Cher going here!!!).

I owned it and I love it; it’s dark and mysterious, I consider it one of my signature scents. The day I was in the operating theatre for surgery, the surgeon complimented it; it’s completely striking. Without a doubt, I will buy it again. I tried Givenchy’s L’Interdit Rouge a few days later and I have to say they are very similar. Now, regarding longevity, I don’t know which will last longer on the skin as I couldn’t conduct the experiment, but I’ve read several reviews stating the original doesn’t have longevity worth spending that money on.

  • I would remove the ginger and perhaps the pepper, because once they fade, the neroli and orange blossom dry out into a woody vanilla that lingers for hours. It’s worth it for the price and the excellent longevity; it lasts about 8 hours (which is rare on my skin) and stays on clothes. The trail is at a personal distance, ideal and very pleasant. I’m not convinced by the ginger, which is the only thing that bothers me, but it’s a good option among domestic perfumes. Of the Cher line, which I’ve tried them all, it’s the only one I like.
