I’ve never tried the original Gris Charnel, but this Massimo Dutti one smells more like Givenchy Gentleman EDP than the others mentioned. They share notes, but the drydown of this is less dusty. It’s a masculine, semi-sweet, seductive scent for the evening. At first, it smells a bit synthetic, but after 10 minutes it settles and improves significantly. If you can grab it at a good price, I’d recommend it; it lasts well. In my country it’s around €85, but at €50 it’s definitely worth it.
If you can still find it, give it a try and it will almost certainly stay in your collection. It’s the perfect blend between BDK’s Gris Charnel and Dior Homme Intense, with ingredient quality off the charts. The performance is good; it’s not a beast, but it delivers. What’s interesting is that with the heat of the skin, it reappears when it seems to have vanished. One of the best.
It’s a copy of BDK’s Gris Charnel, and on top of that, it’s more expensive than a lovely equivalent like Lattafa’s Liam Grey. You can identify it from the very first note. Well, no original creation is immune to being imitated.
What a surprise upon trying it. Although it’s not identical, it has a notable resemblance to my beloved Gris Charnel. It’s a woody, spiced, and warm iris. The opening is a bit dry and earthy, but the drydown is creamy and slightly sweet. I love the scent. On my skin it lasts about 6 hours; after the first hour, the trail is very soft. It’s versatile, ideal for any occasion, and 100% unisex. The olfactory quality is high, though the performance isn’t the best. It’s pricier than a Zara perfume, but not by much. I might have considered it if I didn’t already own the BDK, but now I don’t need it.
I liked it, but I agree with the previous reviewer: it doesn’t last long, has little projection, and poor performance. It’s strong, with a lot of spicy character from the cardamom. I don’t detect the tea, nor do I perceive it. It’s unisex at the start, with a sweet, smoky tonka touch that loses facets until it becomes dry, herbal, masculine, and woody. If you’re a woman and you like strong scents, you might enjoy it. I agree on the fragrance family, not so much on the iris. It’s more autumnal. I’d give it a low mark (7): it doesn’t smell bad, but to be more rounded, it lacks power, projection, and longevity. It ends up being half-way there.
Always searching for the perfect iris, I was excited about this collection, but it wasn’t what I expected. It seems more masculine: a dry, slightly herbal woody iris. It didn’t remind me of Dior Homme. It lasts a scant two hours; in the shopping centre, I barely noticed I no longer smelled of it, not even by the handbag’s drydown. Terrible longevity. I imagine it seemed better in the store with the sprays in the air. I don’t think €50 is worth it for the longevity. Edited 11.6.24: I hold the same opinion; it’s predominantly herbal and woody, becoming more talc-like and slightly sweet as it dries. I wore it all afternoon, and after two hours it’s skin-scent only until 4, when it disappears. It has much similarity with Gris Charnel, but with a lighter creaminess and is significantly more woody and masculine.
