New for 2026, Universal Vanilla joins the CoSTUME NATIONAL wardrobe as an Oriental Vanilla fragrance for women and men alike. It is composed by perfumer Sophie Labbé.
The mood is grown-up rather than confectionery: a fresh aromatic-rummy lift at first, gradually giving way to resinous warmth, amber and dry timber notes.
Up top are lavender, yerba mate and rum. The lavender lends a clean herbal line, the mate a touch of green bitterness, and the rum a mellow boozy glow that sets an evening tone.
The middle brings together cacao and sambac jasmine. Cacao supplies a dark, toasted gourmand depth, while the jasmine, with its white-floral radiance, stops the composition feeling weighty.
Underneath lie vanilla absolute, Peru balsam, AMBROX SUPER and dry wood. Here the vanilla turns full and resinous, cushioned by sweet balsam and held in place by a dry ambery-woody framework.
Taken as a whole, it is distinctly vanilla and balsamic, touched by cacao, amber, lavender and woods, with cosy spice, gentle sweetness and rum lingering through. That interplay of aromatics, white blossom and resins keeps it comfortably unisex.
Made for devotees of polished, night-time vanilla, for those drawn to cacao, rum and mellow balsams, and for anyone after a warm yet unsentimental scent to share.
