About 1971
1971 by Scent Boulevard, a Brooding Oriental for Men
Launched in 2023, 1971 by Scent Boulevard is a men's Oriental creation from perfumer Shadi Samra. It sets crisp aromatic notes against a much darker woody foundation.
Lavender, sage and cardamom open the scent, before saffron, cedar and a persistent oud wood lead towards leather and earth.
At the top are bergamot, lavender, sage, cardamom and oud wood. The citrus gives brief lift, while lavender and sage feel herbal and tidy and cardamom adds cool spice.
In the middle, saffron, cedar and oud wood take charge. Saffron lends warmth, cedar lends a dry backbone, and the oud becomes fuller and more resinous.
The drydown rests on patchouli, vetiver, musk, leather and oud wood. Patchouli with vetiver brings an earthy character, leather a firmer animalic edge, musk a smoother veil.
The overall impression is aromatic, woody and warm with spice, alongside musky, earthy, leathery and lavender nuances. Oud links each stage, guiding the fragrance from fresh spice to a shadowy, enveloping close.
It should appeal to wearers who favour woody, leathery Orientals and enjoy lavender treated in a warm rather than fresh way. A distinctly masculine, earthy and musky option centred on oud and dry spice.
In the end, 1971 reads as a coherent, modern Oriental, aromatic at first and leathery at the close. Shadi Samra keeps oud as the connecting thread throughout.
Flowers Green, herbal and fougère Spices Woods and mosses Musk, amber and animalic
