212 Men by Carolina Herrera is a woody musky floral fragrance for men. Launched in 1999, this composition was created by Alberto Morillas, Rosendo Mateu and Ann Gottlieb. The top notes reveal a vibrant freshness with green, grapefruit, spices, bergamot, lavender and petit grain; the heart unfolds with ginger, violet, gardenia and sage; while the base notes settle on musk, sandalwood, incense, vetiver, guaiac wood and labdanum.

A classic scent that never goes out of fashion and will please most people. It reminds me a lot of some men in my family back around 2004-5. Despite being an Eau de Toilette, it lasts comfortably for 8-9 hours. The trail isn’t heavy, but it is above moderate; at times you can feel the bursts of the aroma. It’s easily a blind buy.
Classic. Timeless. Signature. Versatile. Sensual.
One of my top three favourite perfumes… it will always be on the list. You put it on to go out and you’re guaranteed to smell good all night. It lingers on clothes for hours and hours, so it’s expensive, hehe, but once you have it, it’s totally worth it. That said, I think they tone it down a bit every now and then because it used to be stronger, but it’s still good, let it be like that.
Well, everyone has their opinion, but let’s be honest. That bit about having to pump it hard or having short projection isn’t true. It’s a great perfume and doesn’t need much pumping. It performs very well, and that’s the good thing about Herrera perfumes, especially this 212.
Question: Has it been reformulated heavily? (considering it’s from 1999) and if so, has it lost quality noticeably?
Unmistakable scent, quite good longevity, and decent projection. A perfume that should be in every collection.
At first, it bursts with citrus and a clean touch of lavender, giving that fresh, clean fragrance sensation that lasts all the time. Then comes a slightly spicy part where the kick of ginger is noticeable. Finally, that woody base gives it a lot of masculinity and reasonable seriousness: it’s not totally formal nor totally informal, a perfect balance. In summary: clean citrus, a spicy kick of ginger, and a bed of woods that give it a fresh, manly vibe. Occasions: honestly, for everything on hot days, ideal for everyday wear and some special events. Age: very broad, neither too youthful nor too mature, it’s just right. Longevity: above average for a fresh citrus, around 7-8 hours, projecting well for about 3 hours (obviously depending on each person’s pH). Rating: 9/10.
A classic, subtle scent. Ideal as a signature for summer, spring, and autumn. It has decent longevity and projection, although I think the current price is a bit high for what it offers. In my opinion, it’s better for enclosed spaces because its notes are very volatile and don’t stand up to the cold. It has a bit of everything: citrus, lavender, and green notes that smell like freshly cut grass at first. The flowers blend brilliantly with the green notes, and as it dries down, they mix with slightly sweet woods. Finally, a subtle touch of spices like pepper. I see it as masculine, semi-formal, versatile but with a classic, well-dressed air. I think this scent kick-started an DNA that many brands have tried to copy, so one could say it’s a bit ‘overdone’, but it remains a modern perfumery classic.
My perfume of a lifetime. I’m obsessed with that citrus scent with a spicy twist; it’s super fresh. It’s a classic that never goes out of style. I’ve worn it since university and always keep a bottle in my collection. If I had to keep just one for the rest of my life, it would definitely be this one.
I absolutely love it and use it for everything because it’s incredibly easy to like.
Honestly I expected more, I didn’t love it but it didn’t disgust me either, so I won’t buy it again… Longevity on skin is good, but it doesn’t project and the trail is low. I didn’t connect with the scent and it didn’t match me.
It has a powdery feminine touch, I’d like it to be a bit more marine. It has good performance and a prolonged citrus scent, but the dry down doesn’t suit me, it smells too much of flowers.
A fragrance that doesn’t disappoint, it’s an all-rounder and makes a presence. Undervalued for how excellent it is. Use it all the time, anywhere and in any season. A classic that can’t be missing from your collection.
I bought this gem in tester format on Thursday and I must say it’s impressive: scent, projection, longevity and trail. It feels fresh, green at the start, floral and a bit marine. Now I understand why it remains relevant since 1999: it’s an all-rounder that doesn’t go out of style and pleases everyone. Very refreshing to wear. It will be my signature for a long time as long as it stays available. Perfumed regards.
It’s a warhorse, an all-rounder. I detect citrus, herbal and floral… An underrated gem and very exquisite… Essential in any collection and no man doesn’t recognise it… New generations undervalue it… Spectacular performance… Safe to buy blind… Wish they never discontinue it… I give it a 10 out of 10.
Chale, in me the musk predominates with the flowers like in CK One, it reminds me of it too much. Surely on other skin types it will be different, but on me it just doesn’t work.
One of my all-time favourites. I’ve always wanted one and waited for a special moment until my wife gifted it to me on my last birthday. It’s a delight and remains a great fragrance despite its years. It keeps that magic that makes it delicious, versatile and charming. Impossible for someone not to like it. The downside: it’s very massified and ubiquitous, but for good reason it’s one of the best in history, at least for me.
A timeless classic. This wonder takes me back to my days at Universitario in 2010 and 2011, when it was my signature; the girls couldn’t stop praising it. It’s in my top three daily citrus scents, after Aqua di Giò and Versace Pour Homme. It has aged beautifully, its scent is unmistakable and still appeals to men of all ages, despite the sweet Arab fragrances around today. I fell in love with the bottle: robust, heavy, and with a magnetic cap. I bought four bottles. Nowadays, although I have some left from my last one, I don’t use it as much; I think it marks a lovely stage in my life and when I want to remember those years, I spray it on my hand and it transports me back ❤️
Carolina Herrera’s 212 Men is a classic and versatile fragrance that balances freshness and warmth. It’s a solid choice for everyday wear with a touch of sophistication. Just bear in mind that its performance can vary due to reformulations and its huge popularity.
It feels urban, clean and direct. The opening is citrusy with a green touch, and soon that floral-musky heart appears, making it distinct. It’s fresh, but not marine or fruity; rather, a metropolitan freshness, elegant without being formal. The longevity isn’t brutal (about 5-6 hours on skin), but it suffices for the office or casual use. The projection is moderate, it doesn’t invade, ideal for warm weather indoors. In my collection, it’s a discreet all-rounder, perfect for the office, meetings or outings without much thought. It doesn’t have the impact of an Asad nor the potency of a Club de Nuit, but it doesn’t aim for that: its role is to be clean, pleasant and always appropriate. It doesn’t seek mass compliments or last 12 hours, but it provides security and elegant freshness. Despite its years, it still feels current, which is a merit in itself.
What does a man smell like? Responsibility, neatness, confidence and character. That is 212 Men NYC. It doesn’t smell like any man, but like a successful, determined one, with a well-ironed shirt that leaves a trail of respect. It doesn’t try to be youthful or viral; it’s charming and conquering, but not the type that attracts teenage glances. It’s for accomplished women with character who know what they want. Upon smelling it, they melt. It smells green, fresh, citrusy, with a clean touch like freshly cut grass: natural but sophisticated. It is the fragrance for a gentleman. Launched in 1999, it has survived fleeting trends and fads. It doesn’t have the hype of an Acqua di Giò or the buzz of an Aventus, but its staying power speaks volumes more than any ranking: it is the reflection of a total man. When you wear it, your essence is clear and firm.
Hello! As we all have different tastes, that’s why there are olfactive families. With 212, over 20 years ago, a client impressed me at work with his scent: rich, sophisticated… Since I asked him what he was wearing, I’ve never gone without a bottle. For me, it remains the best perfume that exists, great Maestro Morillas! Last week, with little left in the bottle, I bought two new ones (31-07-25). I’m of the mind to use a perfume every day, the one I spot in the queue, but when it’s my turn, it’s like trying it for the first time. Many greetings!
Gifted to me by my mother in 2006, smelling it again in 2025 was a nostalgic journey; it marked my childhood and today it still smells modern and sophisticated. I don’t care what people say about the batches or the longevity; nowadays many people just criticise and focus on niche perfumes, thinking they are the best. If you want to buy it, go ahead without worrying about that atomiser.
The fragrance that goes with a suit. If there is one that made me reconsider what ‘elegant’ means, it is this. 212 Men by Carolina Herrera is, without a doubt, the most delicious clean floral fragrance I have ever smelled and it proved that talcum powder can be incredibly modern. Here there are no mysteries: its magic is elegant cleanliness. It is a perfect blend where lavender and musk unite to give that sensation of just fresh out of the shower. To finish, violet adds a light, very current talcum touch that makes you feel neat without effort. It is perfect for the office, projecting security and professionalism without being intrusive. It is the ideal scent to complement a suit, making you feel like the boss in a discreet and classy way. Its versatility is another great point: you can use it in any season and occasion, as it never clashes. Towards the end, the woods emerge to give a solid, masculine base, a perfect closure to its impeccable evolution. For me, it is a ‘must-have’. It is masculine, clean, elegant and with a unique floral touch. My rating: 8.5/10.
Fresh, clean and musky, it opens with a creamy, rounded citrus that isn’t sharp at all, with floral notes adding warmth and sweetness, and a soft green base that closes with a warm sensation. Ideal for men: seductive, fresh yet charming, perfect for the office or romantic dates with a neat look.
I tried 212 Men and found it fresh, urban and super easy to wear. At the start, citrus with green and spicy notes give a clean, energetic vibe perfect for kicking off the day. Then light florals appear, followed by a woody base with musk—elegant but without losing that youthful touch. It conveys modernity, ideal for the city. On my skin, it lasts about 5-6 hours with a soft projection, making it versatile and non-intrusive. In short: fresh, modern and reliable, perfect for almost any occasion.
It’s a timeless classic that smells good but doesn’t stand out. I see it as ideal for a daily signature scent: versatile, balanced with green notes, lavender and musk that provide a clean feel, and woods and incense for a more elegant base. Very good aromatic balance, although the performance is moderate.
It’s not really my style, but I admit it’s not a bad perfume. If you already own one, use it without worry; however, if you’re thinking of buying it or giving it as a gift, for the same price, I’d recommend looking for other options, as there are many better ones available.
This has been my favourite for 20 years and I use it almost every day. The problem is that with the reformulations, it has lost quite a bit in longevity and projection. Nevertheless, it remains an exquisite aroma that I haven’t found equalled in any other perfume.
A good fragrance, a nice smell, but in my opinion, it doesn’t suit my personality. It is a very clean scent, leaning towards unisex; it smells like a man over thirty who goes to church, pays his taxes, and greets everyone in the office.
At first, I was hooked by that fresh, clean green opening that gives a real energy boost, but over time it’s become my ‘I don’t know what to wear’ scent. It doesn’t smell bad; it’s correct and easy, yet it feels flat, slightly herbal, with a base that fades very quickly without leaving much of a mark. It does its job, but it doesn’t stir the emotions: fresh and functional, but soulless. Once the bottle is empty, it won’t be coming back to my collection.
A delightful fragrance. Its dry-down is excellent. It is a very pleasant aroma that leaves a trail of a simple, positive man.
I love this lotion; it will always have a place in my collection. I can’t stop smelling it; it is simply fascinating.
Smells very rich, masculine, perfect for going out at night or to a family event.
Just received a gift bottle. First impressions suggest a fragrance or DNA that feels familiar, having been worn before; it’s a bit dated yet fresh and clean. I think it would suit the gym well—it smells like men’s laundry detergent, perhaps some soap, shampoo, or talcum powder. It reminds me of the perfumes featured in old magazines.
Well, ‘aberrant’ is an understatement when describing this scent. Let’s start with the premise that its average user must be a Neanderthal or someone with a rather poor IQ. The first time I smelled it was in a cave, or rather, a colleague’s office, which seemed like a fortress piled high with unpleasant odours, this Axe-with-chocolate-style perfume being the latest addition. I must admit that this bad memory influenced me, but even when tested in a decent setting, its citrus note is no less disagreeable, giving off rather harsh vibes. Besides, with its citrus notes tinged with sweetness, it reminds me of tea bags. I believe this fragrance is akin to mixing the wonderful Creed Aventus with tea and a Pisco Sour, resulting in such a meagre outcome. I don’t think this scent leads anywhere serious for any man who is minimally respectable; I highly recommend avoiding this ‘perfume’.
My father gifted me this bottle, something new for me. Upon smelling it, I thought it smelled of ‘gentleman’, but upon trying it more, I understood why: it’s for a serious, neat, and clean man, the complete definition. Some don’t like it, but I love it. It’s not for very open spaces; its trail is good, ideal for school, the office, or daily use. I love it.
A classic fragrance from the ‘good school’. It doesn’t quite enchant me, but I like it. It’s a rich and fresh scent, perfect for summer. My wife adores it, which is the main reason I own it. I can’t smell it much after applying it; I suppose it’s olfactory fatigue, but when I shower at night it kicks back in and is definitely delicious. It won’t go out of style and can be worn comfortably today.
An indispensable classic, suitable for both day and night, which suits warm climates best. It’s the one that lasts longest on my skin and earns me the most compliments. Unfortunately, it has become very generic, but it remains exquisite and long-lasting.
A masterpiece I discovered in 2025, endlessly versatile and addictive. It lasts around 5-6 hours with a decent projection. I’ll be buying this for life.
