Mugler's Alien Eau de Toilette, launched in 2009, is an oriental woody fragrance for women. The composition was created by Olivier Cresp.

Dear Alien EDT: after searching for you so long, I finally have you in my hands. You are everything I expected and even more. You resemble your cousin the EDP, but you suit me better. I adore your top notes above all; sometimes I feel like drinking the bottle but I control myself because I’m not mad. Or well, I’m talking to a perfume, so who knows. I love you. Yours, Anabel.

  • Alien EDT is a wonder, hard to explain but… very soft and subtle. At first, I sensed flowers; I didn’t notice the citrus notes as described, then came that magical combination of jasmine and woods that has me hooked. A beautiful woody jasmine, something unique and charming that I can’t stop smelling. It has fascinated me from the very first moment. I think it suits all year round; now that it’s not cold, it seemed wonderful to me, and I’m sure I’ll use it gladly in winter too. Perfect for me, Alien is adorable.

Obsessed with Mugler lately, I decided to try Alien EDT after falling in love with the EDP. It’s similar but more citrusy, light, and floral; it stands out for its citrus notes, white flowers, and a touch of wood. I see it as a great alternative for spring or summer, perfect for hot days or when you want to feel energetic. The EDP is more of a winter scent, so this is ideal for a more relaxed moment but just as rich. On my skin, it lasts about 3.5 hours with almost no sillage. Perhaps it needs warmth to shine better, as it’s currently cold. I like it, but for now, the EDP fascinates me more. Maybe in warmer weather we’ll get along better, who knows.

  • I come to reaffirm, add to and correct what was said before. It’s very different to try a perfume a few times to actually have it physically, as now, thanks to the administrators who rewarded me with this fragrance months ago, leaving a review owed. Many thanks to everyone. If anyone hates or cannot assimilate the strong Thierry Mugler stamp and promised to stay away, I hope they break that promise with this fragrance, because unlike its siblings, Alien EDT pleases without forcing. It comes out innate and natural. I was wrong to classify it only for day, spring and summer; clearly it has more to offer in autumn, winter, night and every occasion. It’s an all-rounder that easily becomes a personal signature: friendly and cheerful. It can provoke addiction. Its composition seems simple but it’s a delight: jasmine and citrus with an ambered and woody base. It puts you in a good mood and attracts compliments. Natural and inevitable beauty. It has become one of my favourites. From now on, it will always be in my wardrobe. Totally recommended, you won’t regret it; clear your head of everything said about Mugler, because this is a breath of fresh air. 9.5/10.

Alien Eau de Toilette is the perfect manifestation of what a light version should be: it retains the essence of the original and minimises the potency without losing body, having enough similarities to be a solid derivative. The scent is more citrusy and wearable, less scandalous and more relaxed; fundamental conveniences because Mugler fragrances usually evoke divas of notoriety, stuffed with sequins and peacock feathers, so potent that they suffocate. Thierry Mugler, as mentioned in Angel reviews, is technically a dead brand in fashion (floating thanks to the flow of its best-selling fragrances like Angel, J’Adore and N°5). Alien in EDT presents an almost anti-atmospheric vision of the house’s femininity, which used to represent women in alien creature costumes or insectoid monsters capable of fighting Godzilla (as if Lady Gaga existed in the 90s). In my opinion, that vision caused commercial decline by ceasing to be an abstract divine creature to become a flesh-and-blood being. Alien EDT moves away from that; it is a sober, comforting, moderately classic, realistic and extremely versatile femininity that pleases many people. I criticise its departure from the house’s theories, although I appreciate its structural closeness to the precursor and its pleasant aroma of creamy white flowers with fresh citrus, finishing with starchy and ambered woods. As an EDT, its longevity and trail are stable and notable (a commendable state, given that the Angel EDT is ghostly). It’s a breath of fresh air after a torrent of ambivalent creations. Recommended, in my opinion.

Alien Eau de Toilette is the perfect manifestation of what a lighter version should be: it retains the essence of the original and minimises the potency without fading the body, maintaining enough similarities to be a solid derivative. The scent is more citrusy and wearable, less scandalous and more carefree, key conveniences since Mugler fragrances usually evoke powerful and overwhelming divas. Thierry Mugler, as mentioned in Angel reviews, is technically a dead brand in the fashion industry (floating thanks to the lucrative flow of its perfumes, which maintain enviable sales). Alien in EDT format presents an almost anti-atmospheric vision of the house’s femininity, which used to represent women in alien creature suits or insectoid monsters, as if Lady Gaga existed in the 90s. In my opinion, that vision caused commercial deterioration by moving away from the real human woman. Alien EDT is sober, comforting, moderately classic, and extremely versatile, pleasing many people. I criticise its departure from the house’s theories, though I appreciate its structural closeness to the precursor and its pleasant creamy white flower aroma with fresh citrus, finishing in starchy and amber woods. As an EDT, its duration and sillage are quite stable and noticeable (unlike the ghostly Angel in EDT). It’s a breath of fresh air after a torrent of ambivalent creations. Recommended.

  • I’ve had this ‘violet creature’ for years in its EDP Intense version, a strong floral, extremely long-lasting and slightly toxic just after the top notes, where you can perceive an antiseptic note that fades until the dominant jasmine remains. Today it arrives as an EDT and to my surprise it’s a more adaptable version, keeping the same accords but drastically lowering the alcohol concentration until it becomes a soft and delicious cologne. They are so different that they function as different perfumes, although they relate almost entirely; there is no doubt it is an Alien. It’s a warm and loving fragrance, not arrogant or cloying, not distant or strange; it doesn’t generate an atmosphere of an unprecedented landscape like the EDP, but rather a ‘humanised’ one to enjoy in any season. A friendly alien with whom to share experiences from other worlds…

I’ve just received this perfume… what a surprise life can give us! Since perfumes are part of my daily life, I couldn’t feel better. The EDT is for any moment, any weather, any time… it’s for finishing the bottle with good use, without doubting whether you smell good or not. Fresh jasmine and woods, that’s what lingers most on my skin. Recommended 100%.

  • I prefer the EDP, although they are very similar, the EDT notes the citrus more and personally I don’t like them much. The good thing is that the florals predominate more, so I wouldn’t classify it as a citrus. A point in its favour is that it’s much more versatile than the EDP; this one is for day, night and all year round, whereas the EDP is more for cold weather and night. Its trail is important and the longevity is good too.

  • Does anyone know if the change of signature from Thierry Mugler to MUGLER has altered the composition or longevity of the perfume?

  • Wow!!! I bought it because the EDP seemed too intense to me; I’m sensitive and strong scents give me headaches, so I look for subtle aromas. This seems ideal because, when dosed correctly, it works well both day and night. It smells like a beautiful garden of white flowers, and although I don’t usually like florals in perfumery, here I adore them. Finding a perfume where flowers predominate and that I like is quite an event. It’s a definite keeper in my collection for a long time.

  • This perfume was a gift. Initially, I wanted the EDP; it was a friend’s scent and I loved that powdery base, but by mistake, they gave me this. And luckily, because even the EDT has turned out unbearable for me. I started with enthusiasm but soon it became super cloying. I’m still halfway through and don’t know if I’ll finish it. I think I’m one of the people to whom Mugler doesn’t suit. They are long-lasting and leave a lot of sillage, but they are so heavy that in my case, it ends up giving me a headache. Definitely, I wouldn’t buy them again.

  • It’s a gem. A little softer than the EDP but with the same hook. I feel it’s much more wearable and less boring than the intense version. It has a decent longevity for an EDT. I give it a 10.

I had my expectations sky-high with Alien because everyone praises it and I could hardly find any criticism, so I bought it blindly and it was an absolute letdown. I don’t know if it’s my skin, the EDT, or my nose, but on me it smells like pure talcum powder – the most powdery essence that exists. It overwhelms me and I couldn’t stand it. The times I’ve worn it, even my surroundings couldn’t tolerate it, what a shame.

  • Leonardo da Vincho

Dear @lilacmoonlight, it’s very strange what’s happening to you. This Mugler Alien EDT is one of the five fragrances I appreciate most on a woman’s skin (along with Chanel Chance EDP, Coco Mademoiselle EDP, Coco Noir, and Dior Pure Poison; we could add some from Hermès). Its floral notes are very distinct; the jasmine is more intense than in other fragrances containing it, just like the white flowers, but together they form an interesting and pleasant aromatic cluster. I don’t know why it has that performance on your skin, whether it’s chemistry, reformulation, or adulterated packaging. I recommend applying it on blotting paper and testing it occasionally. It would be interesting to know the batch and manufacture date. I tried one from 2018 and loved it; it exudes quality. I hope you can enjoy it because the cost is high. Affectionate regards.

Hello @lilacmoonlight, what you’re experiencing is strange. This Mugler Alien EDT is one of my five favourite fragrances on women’s skin (alongside Chanel Chance Eau Tendre EDP, Coco Mademoiselle EDP, Coco Noir, and Dior Pure Poison; we could add a few from Hermès). Its floral notes are crisp; the jasmine is more intense than in other fragrances, and the white flowers too, but together they form an interesting and pleasant ensemble. I don’t know why it has that performance on your skin, whether it’s chemistry, reformulation, or a fake bottle. I recommend testing it on blotting paper and checking it periodically. It would be good to know the batch and date; I tried one from 2018 and loved it, it exudes quality. I hope you can enjoy it, because it’s expensive. Warm regards.

I’ve been a fan of Angel since the 90s; I always thought that if I liked Angel, I wouldn’t like Alien, so I let it pass and didn’t even look at it. Plus, that violet bottle intimidated me. What a blunder! Lately, I’ve tried it, and it’s gorgeous. It’s a garden full of jasmine and white flowers, a delight for the senses… it brought me a Mediterranean summer night where the freshness makes the floral aromas emanate. Subtle but with a perfect trail, I can’t resist buying a small bottle of this treasure.

  • Is it really an EDT? Its longevity and trail are brutal; I haven’t even tried the EDP because this EDT already feels a bit heavy on me. It’s a special scent, powdery and floral. The opening is odd and made me dizzy, but after half an hour, it changes and I like it. I’m not sure if I’d buy it again; there are days I want another Alien and days I feel no connection. I wear it more at night or in open spaces. Don’t buy blindly; I use it today and I love it, haha.

  • It’s an out-of-this-world fragrance: very potent and lasts all day. I don’t sense any citrus as others say, but rather a strong chocolate with a fresh yet powdery touch that eventually gives me a headache. Although I’m not sensitive, the base smells old-fashioned. I wouldn’t recommend it for young people; if you do use it, keep it for night or cold weather to avoid annoying others. Mugler perfumes are unique, but don’t buy blindly because you might love or hate it.

  • I sniffed it on blotting paper and was smitten, but once I applied it, it vanished within an hour despite spraying six pumps. The longevity and trail leave me cold, so I hardly use it. I’ve tried moisturising my skin, but nothing; it keeps flying off. I’m not sure whether to finish it or gift it, because although the scent appeals to me, it’s not useful for anything.

In summary: a softer, muskier version of Alien, with subtle citrus and bitter notes, and less sweetness. I picked it up thinking it would be a lighter option for spring-summer, and I think it will be great in that season. I agree with the previous reviewer that it doesn’t last long (I have other Mugler EDTs that hold up better). If you like Alien, this fragrance can complement your aromatic needs; I recommend having both.

  • AndreaClaraR17

It’s a rich and simple fragrance that doesn’t go wrong, but the downside is that, at least for me, it doesn’t last at all. 🥺

  • Alien Eau de Toilette from 2009 kicks off with a blast of citrus, especially tangerine, which is super summery, fruity, and cheerful, giving you a boost of energy. Over time, the jasmine arrives, but much softer than in the EDP, perhaps with gardenia. As it dries down, the woods emerge with that sweet, elegant touch of ambergris. I liked it, although the EDP remains my favourite because this is ideal for the heat: fresher and with a moderate trail. I love the bottle; it beats the EDP there. Happy with my four new Aliens, jiji.

  • I’ve had this Alien EDT for years, mostly in winter, but this time I’ve tried it properly in summer. I wore it from afternoon to night at 30 degrees at an outdoor concert, and it worked brilliantly. It leaves a trail that lasts without being heavy, with excellent longevity. The notes are incredible: it’s not citrusy, but a fresh, clean amber floral, very different from what I expected. Perfect for summer nights, undoubtedly its best season.

  • I fell in love with the EDP and sought out a softer EDT for work; my sense of smell is sensitive, and the EDP gives me headaches in enclosed spaces even with just a drop. The EDT smells different at first: jasmine and cedarwood give way to something sweet and citrusy. After five minutes, the jasmine returns, and by an hour, it’s taking over. Sometimes I catch a fleeting note of grape caramel. At four hours, the wood and amber notes emerge, and I can still smell them the next day. The trail is strong at the start and heart, though less so than the EDP. I have to spray it on my chest and wear a wool jumper to keep it discreet. I finished my pre-reformulation bottle, which was my first perfume; I enjoyed it immensely. It’s super feminine and versatile: perfect for shopping in winter or a wedding in summer if used sparingly. The EDP is more sexual; this EDT is like our Alien, in heels with red lips, out for a girls’ night, makeup-free, laughing and drinking wine, yet still an attractive extraterrestrial. Pleasant: 9/10 Interesting: 6/10 Versatile: 9/10 Original: 5/10
