Alien Fusion by Mugler

Of the entire Alien range, this is my absolute favourite 😍 (what a shame it’s no longer available 💔). At first, the intense, super-spiced opening caught me off guard and put me off slightly, but over time I discovered its true magic. The dry-down is perfect: a balance between spice, florals, and that touch of sweet amber and vanilla. It’s warm and elegant, my Christmas star 🎄. The performance is unbeatable: it lasts through dinner after dinner, and by the end of the night, your skin still projects Alien Fusion. Now I’m desperately searching for an equivalent, as it’s the one that lasts and projects best on my skin.

I believe this flanker is how the original Alien should have been. Don’t get me wrong, the classic is a great perfume, but Alien Fusion is well-rounded and has nuances the original lacked. It’s its modernised version. On my skin, it smells like a box of Faber-Castell pencils, which drives me mad, though others might not like it as much. After Flora-Futura, I think this is the best I’ve tried.

Alien Fusion is definitely my favourite after trying it extensively in perfumeries. It resembles the original quite a bit, so if you have one, you probably don’t need the other. On my skin, it’s a similar version but spicier and less dense. Especially in the opening, that spicy touch is noticeable, with ginger and a lovely cinnamon that doesn’t feel wintry to me. The floral part starts with a fresh orange blossom and then moves to the creaminess of neroli (without that typical sticky smell) and the classic Alien jasmine (yes, even though it’s not listed, they share the same DNA). As it dries down, the sparkling aspect recedes and becomes sweeter, vanilla-like, and ambered. I see it as more feminine. It’s more versatile than the original, being less powerful and invasive. Alien EDP is autumn/winter for me, while Alien Fusion would suit spring or summer evenings. It projects moderately/high for about 2-3 hours before gradually fading. Total longevity is 6 to 8 hours. I love it. Soon I’ll get a bottle before it runs out.

Alien Fusion opens with a fresh, very sweet note of ginger and orange blossom, which soon becomes warmer thanks to the cinnamon and amber. The dry-down has the classic sexy, indolic DNA of Alien, though it sidelines the sensual side to be more youthful and playful, probably due to that sparkling point of ginger and the sweetness of the cinnamon making it sweeter and spicier rather than woody and narcotic. It projects strongly for the first two hours and then slowly fades without stopping until I go to sleep. As an Alien lover, I’ve enjoyed it greatly, almost as much as my favourite, the Alien EdT. Fusion is more feminine and modern than the EdP, and more usable. It makes me think of a millennial version of the 90s cinnamon bombs (like Givenchy’s Organza Indecence), which I love so much. I see it for cool to cold weather, winter, autumn, and spring nights. I wouldn’t use it for very serious occasions, but it works for daily, formal, or special events. Given my partner’s reaction, I’ll personally keep it for second dates 😉 Pleasant: 8/10 Interesting: 5/10 Versatile: 7/10 Original: 5/10

I don’t know why it’s not suggested as similar to Cacharel’s Yes I am. I thought it would have fruit in the opening, but no, they only share ginger, white florals, amber, and vanilla. On my skin, it has enchanted me and feels identical from the opening to the dry-down. I haven’t tested it on clothes or paper, just directly on my wrist.

The opening is rich with a blend of ginger and cinnamon, but with a present touch that recalls the original Alien. It’s a marvel because it gives the sensation of smelling that Alien jasmine without actually carrying jasmine. Alien Fusion has a very unique personality. If you’re an Alien lover, you’ll surely like it. The only problem is the longevity: I feel it well for the first two hours and then it stays close to the skin. Total longevity is about 5-6 hours, no more.

Starts with a cold spicy blast of ginger and bergamot at full volume. It’s the Alien furthest from the classic super mischievous. As it dries down a lovely cinnamon emerges with vanilla and a touch of sweet playful amber nothing serious. The bright red bottle fits this youthful party vibe perfectly. The downside is longevity: 5 hours on skin and a trail of barely 2; for an EDP that’s too little. Do I like it? Yes. Will I repurchase? No.

What a huge disappointment with Alien Fusion. Strong opening and a gorgeous bottle but the fixations are minimal lasting barely two hours on skin. It’s a shame because it smells wonderful. I wonder what’s wrong with Mugler regarding the longevity of their fragrances lately. It seems that with so many reformulations and limited editions quality has dropped.

I wouldn’t classify it as an oriental floral as per the product sheet. Rather it’s a sweet florifruity a trendy fruitchouli. The opening is an ambroxan sweetness pleasant though a bit cloying. The synthetic nardo note reminds me of the old Cacharel Loulou the king of artificial nardos. There’s a tendency in current floral perfumes to repeat that supercalifragilistic tuberose. I’m not repulsed by nardos but the lack of imagination from big brands is tiring. I don’t detect the declared ginger cinnamon or bergamot but rather an undeclared tuttifrutti of peach apricot and pear that turns it into a textbook fruitchouli. Even if it’s a ‘seen before’ and a bit tiresome today in 35 years it will be a beloved vintage. It smells good but it’s linear. It performs better than average. If you don’t mind smelling like everyone else keep it and wear it in 40 years; you’ll be sure to impress.

It doesn’t remind me of the original. This one is brash rare and artificial with an animalic touch. I don’t dislike it; the bottle in that red is prettier than the original but I don’t see much in it. Perhaps it would have more prominence if Mugler launched it as its own perfume rather than an Alien flanker. The dry-down doesn’t appeal to me as much; it reminds me of creamy lipsticks from the 80s.

They gave me samples and I tried them. A pity because it’s 13:40 and it smells like the original Alien (which gives me nausea and a urge to run) mixed with Twilly. Ambered jasmines and gingerised nardos. It has a raspberry vibe in the opening. It’s a Mugler through and through seems potent. Cheerful fun… an impression of quality. The slightly sweet-bitter touch of the cinnamon is noticeable.

I liked it a lot although I’m a Mugler fan and if it happens to me like with Flora Futura I wouldn’t hesitate to criticise it. It undoubtedly carries the Alien DNA; that characteristic jasmine is there. It’s more floral carrying cinnamon vanilla… these added notes make it more versatile and subtle; it doesn’t shake you with notes at first sniff. It’s cheerful luminous enveloping you in a halo of positivity. It’s a clear example of what I look for in a perfume that inspires me to want to live. Would I buy it? I don’t know; it reminds me too much of the Original… I need a comparative test.
