This scent brings back memories of my childhood; I recently bought it again. The bottle and fragrance are different, I believe they’ve reformulated it, and it lacks the longevity and intensity of the violets it once had, but it remains in my collection for those lovely memories.
A lady in the supermarket said April Violets smells like overripe banana, an aroma that reminds me of my shopping trips with my mum and my curiosity about perfumery when Yardley was made here. That touch of banana, which I’ve always liked, is in some violets; I even noticed it faintly in Fahrenheit. It used to be for cheerful women aged 30 to 45, mums going out to have fun. Unfortunately, the reformulation has taken away its charm. My rating is for the version from three decades ago: Scent 8.5, Longevity 9, Projection 9, Versatility 8.
It seems all the reformulations are for the worse 🙁
If you can get the liquid violet version, buy it now! You’ll take something good home. I used to hear real violets with potent, creamy vanilla, relaxing and feminine. The new one… disappoints me greatly. I bought the body mist in December, thinking it was restoring that fragrance, but everything has changed. Where are the deep violets? This smells dry, without vanilla, with lots of musk and muguet. It’s not bad for wearing at home, but I won’t buy it again. I thought it was because it was a body mist, but I tried the colourless cologne and it smells the same. Goodbye, my April violets; autumn has arrived for them.
