There is something in the blend that makes the fragrance ‘fall’ with grace, leaving a nostalgic veil. It is exquisite; I’ve tried it in candles and perfume, both gorgeous. The longevity is above average, which I adore. I think Biblioteque lives up to its name: the sweetness of peach and plum doesn’t overpower because the leather adds that old-book touch every bookworm needs, one of my favourite Byredo scents. 9/10
There is something in the blend that makes the fragrance ‘fall’ with grace, leaving a veil of nostalgia. It is exquisite; I’ve tried it in candles and perfume, both gorgeous. The trail is above average and that fascinates me. I think Biblioteque does justice to its name: the sweetness of peach and plum isn’t overwhelming because the leather adds the scent of an old book that every bookworm needs, one of my favourite Byredo scents. 9/10
I bought it hoping to be surrounded by the scent of old books, but the expectation wasn’t met. It doesn’t smell of almond or vanilla as the aged paper suggests, perhaps hidden by the fruity top notes. But poetry not coming to fruition doesn’t mean I won’t like it. It seems complex, unique, very personal and distinctive, clearly a winter scent. I won’t be buying it again, but I’ll enjoy it while it lasts.
I bought it expecting the aroma of old books, but the expectation wasn’t met. It has no almond or vanilla, perhaps hidden by the fruity notes. But just because the poetry isn’t fulfilled doesn’t mean I don’t like it. It seems complex, unprecedented, personal and distinctive, clearly for winter. I wouldn’t buy it again, but while it lasts, I’ll enjoy it.
Byredo is one of those brands that lets imagination and marketing take the lead over logic: this doesn’t smell of a library but that doesn’t detract from its good qualities. It opens very fruity stepping out with the sweetness and tartness of plum before a soft suede takes hold. It bears a strong resemblance to Bottega Veneta Eau Velours and Rogue by Rihanna yet it is fruitier than the former less creamy than the latter and unlike both the mentholated note accompanying the suede is less intense and only emerges at the end in my opinion giving it more refinement and better execution. The trail is moderate at first then becomes skin-scent after an hour. It lasts about 8 hours on skin. Like its dupes I consider it a feminine unisex due to its fruity touch. I see it as a perfume for cold days and mainly semi-formal occasions. It makes me think of a woman in a suit not particularly beautiful but good-looking going about her life with a faintly severe smile. Pleasant: 8/10 Interesting: 8/10 Versatile: 6/10 Original: 6/10 PS: If you like this perfume I recommend trying Musc Noir by Narciso Rodriguez.
Byredo has a naming team guided by imagination and marketing, not by correspondence: this doesn’t smell of library, but has good qualities. It opens very fruity with the sweetness and acidity of plum, then gains strength with a soft suede. It resembles Bottega Veneta Eau Velours and Rogue by Rihanna, but is fruitier, less creamy and has a minty touch on the suede that’s less strong and only at the end, giving it more finesse and better execution. Sillage is medium at the start, then a whisper of skin. It lasts about 8 hours. I see it as feminine unisex due to the fruity touch. It’s for cold days and semi-formal occasions. It makes me think of a woman in a suit, good-looking with a half-severe smile. Pleasant: 8/10, Interesting: 8/10, Versatile: 6/10, Original: 6/10. This perfume does not smell of a library nor of books nor of anything resembling them yet it smells good. It seems to me to lean towards the feminine somewhat reminiscent of Gypsy Water but with a stronger plum aroma and better performance. The plum note is very synthetic and causes the fragrance to degrade making it smell like it costs around $90 USD or less. The price is exorbitant considering its aroma is not particularly special and it lacks much projection. I can’t find an occasion to wear it… What I did like was the longevity; it lasted 7 hours on my skin and smelled quite crisp. After 6 hours the leather note finally emerges and it starts to smell slightly of books and even wine. At this point the fragrance smells intoxicating and delicious… but one has to wait far too long.
It doesn’t smell of library or books, but it smells good. It tends to be feminine, similar to Gypsy Water but with more plum and better performance. The plum is very synthetic and makes the fragrance degrade, seeming to cost less than $90. The price is exorbitant for an aroma that’s not very special and has little projection. I can’t find a reason to use it, except longevity: it lasts seven hours on skin and smells crisp. At six hours, the leather emerges and starts to smell of books and wine, intoxicating and delicious, but you have to wait too long.
In short, it smells very much of leather with plum. It’s not for me.
It’s a comforting and pleasant scent. If used in moderation, it’s an aroma that doesn’t offend anyone.
Plum, violet and soft suede. Unisex, but ideal for women who fear leather. I agree that the name is a disaster; it doesn’t remind you of a library at all. However, when I tried it, I thought: ‘I’d like my house to smell like this’. I bought the candle instead of the perfume. On skin, I don’t dislike it, but it doesn’t quite enchant me.
It’s a ‘familiar’ rarity: strange and without clones, but made of known aromas like plasticine and cake, in the style of Eyes Closed. The plum with the leather creates an olfactory baby. It doesn’t smell of books; it’s a concept that takes you to a reading nook with red tea and plum cake. The plum has a strong presence and smells of crafts, almost like my toddler class in the nineties. It’s comfortable, but as it dries, the leather becomes serious. I’m not sure I’d wear it, but it’s curious and funny. I’d see it on people with gravitas, for winter use. It’s a proper beast on my skin, lasting more than three days after washing.
It is a ‘familiar’ rarity. What do I mean by this? That it is strange and you won’t find many clones or immediate similarities yet at the same time it is a collection of known aromas: plasticine and cake a style it shares with its companion Eyes Closed. The plum with the leather through its wild chemistry gives birth to the Bibliothèque baby. No it does not smell of paper nor of books or wood; it is a concept and that concept takes you to a reading nook a wide window overlooking a grey and white sky a cold morning outside and a mysterious warmth inside. Beside you a cup of red tea resting on a small porcelain saucer with a plum cake. That is it. The plum a note that I must admit does not particularly enthuse me has a strong presence but here I find it bearable and it sets the foundations for that initial smell of crafts plasticine on a table already stained with children’s waxes. I detect almost more of my kindergarten class from the nineties in it. That’s no bad thing; it is very interesting; it has a comfortable point thanks to the base notes and at the end as it dries the leather becomes somewhat tight and offers that serious imprint that distances you from plasticine and waxes. I don’t know if I see myself wearing it although I would like to be ‘that person’ for whom it fits like a glove. It has its charm and is certainly curious though not for everyone. I see it on people with gravitas and serenity for full winter use. I add that it is a true beast mode especially on my skin; it lasted more than three days even after washing it.
It’s a clean, flat and fruity scorecard, with a synthetic atmosphere of cleanliness and light, almost like blank sheets. It smells like the synthesis of peach with skin, treated and deodorised nubuck leather. In short, it’s a constant and synthetic aroma evoking laboratory purity and fruitiness. Those who enjoy Hypnose, She by Armani, Gucci Rush or Zadig & Voltaire will like it: blends of hygiene, purity and softened fruitiness.
Ladies, this is for you (it’s much more feminine than masculine). I bought a niche and was given some decants, and this was love at first sight. Despite being a man, I adore it: it’s sweet, intoxicating and delicate. As someone below said, it doesn’t smell of paper or wood; it’s a concept that takes you to a reading nook with a window, grey sky, cold morning and mysterious warmth. It’s interesting, breaks the mould and is addictive and sexy on a woman.
I spent hours in libraries and swear nothing smells quite the same. The name is a bit of a nonsense, but the scent itself is pleasant: clean, fruity, sweet and floral. However, it’s one-dimensional and fades quickly, so it’s not worth the price. It won’t change your life, but no one will tell you you don’t smell good.
