  An incredible Donna Karan perfume, bold and magnetic. A little ahead of its time, featuring woods, nutmeg, and pepper that sounded fresh in a feminine fragrance back in the early 2000s. Black Cashmere opens with intense wood and nutmeg, reminiscent of Yves Saint Laurent’s Jazz-style men’s perfumes, but with an androgynous vibe and without the lavender/tobacco combo. The pepper is subtle yet marks the opening. All this softens quickly to reveal a more delicate and ‘feminine’ scent, where soft saffron, a gourmand amber, and a powdery rose with vanilla take centre stage. I also detect a very faint leather note and patchouli in the dry down. It’s like a predecessor to Ange ou les Démon, but without that narcotic tonka bean and white floral side. Black Cashmere is less aggressive, more subtle, silky, and subliminal in its eroticism. That nutmeg note is what makes it unique. The Mexican creator behind the currently trendy Neroli Portofino has other interesting creations if you want to change direction.
