Black Is Black by Nu Parfums is a fragrance in the Aromatic Fougère family for men, introduced in 2007.
The scent moves from a very bright citrus and herbal opening towards a smoother, more enveloping base of amber, vanilla and musk.
Up top there is plenty going on: bergamot, lime, tangerine and grapefruit are paired with anise, basil, lavender, juniper berries and liquorice. The result is zesty, green and mildly spiced.
At the heart the formula narrows to rose and jasmine alone, lending a neat floral softness that takes the edge off the freshness.
Underneath, amber comes together with tonka bean and vanilla, while guaiac wood and musk give structure and a comfortable roundness.
The wider impression is citrus and aromatic, with cool spiced and aniseed facets gradually giving way to sweet, vanilla-toned amber warmth with a light woody and musky support.
It should appeal to those who enjoy a traditional daytime fougère, lively to begin with and cosier afterwards, with restrained spice and mellow sweetness.
