Boa Madre, by the house of Cristian Cavagna, is an olfactory creation from the chypre floral family, launched in 2021 and designed for men and women. This fragrance was conceived by perfumers Arturetto Landi and Cristian Cavagna. In its opening, the top notes unfold a vibrant combination of banana leaf, neroli, ginger, and pink pepper. The heart of the composition reveals the elegance of Indian neroli, ylang-ylang, jasmine, orange blossom, and iris. To finish, the base notes offer a warm and deep foundation with leather, civet, castoreum, oud wood, birch, ambrette musk, costus, oakmoss, musk, and sandalwood.

A boutique in Mexico recommended several perfumes and I settled on Boa Madre. I never imagined a floral could be so challenging. It projects exactly what it is: a white neroli and floral, but with a base of oud, civet, leather and castoreum that gives it great density. I know of no similar scent, perhaps Nudiflorum due to the concept of bold flowers, but generally it is unique. Does it justify the price? I don’t think so; here it skyrockets due to import costs, ranging from $310-330, but if you find it at the European price, you’ll think twice. Occasions: any moment to stand out. The neroli makes it elegant, the base ingredients make it casual, so it serves for everything, although being so rare it will attract attention, so use it when you want to make a statement.
A total work of art; I’ve never felt anything like it. The leather, as I was told at the perfumerie, attempts to mimic snake skin and achieves it perfectly. I’ve never smelled a snake, but it’s an animal leather, nothing aggressive, elegant and incredibly wearable. The tuberose adds that clean, unisex twist, completing the concept 100%. I already own Nudiflorum and they are two very different things. Being a 100ml extrait, the price is right in the middle for this quality. Hard to find a real tuberose made like this with this level of quality for less.
