Descripción
Claiborne for Men by Liz Claiborne is a chypre fragrance for men. Launched in 1989, this olfactive composition unfolds with top notes of bergamot, lavender, green notes, lemon, sour lime, melon, and tarragon. The heart reveals juniper, cyclamen, jasmine, myrrh, rose, and carnation, while the base settles on a bed of oakmoss, leather, patchouli, musk, cedar, and amber.

Opens strongly with bergamot, melon, and lavender. The florals, jasmine and rose, sit in the background. It reminded me of Drakkar Noir in certain notes, but less intense. I find the dry-down too weak and unexpressive. Longevity and trail are moderate. I see it more as a daytime scent for intermediate seasons. It’s not a bad perfume, but I admit this chypre family isn’t my style. From Liz Claiborne, I still prefer Bora-Bora.
I remember this from Perfumería Prieto in Valencia, spring 1989, as an exciting American novelty that smelled lovely. The bottle caught my eye, and I took the women’s version to my mother; the price and the tester sample didn’t disappoint. Upon wearing it, I found it gentle and pleasant, soft and fresh for those hot days, with good woody and sweet notes. While its trail and longevity weren’t exceptional, I cherish the memory of those beautiful, happy times. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s now discontinued.
Absolutely magnificent fragrance! At around £15, it’s a safe and delightful addition to any collection. It works perfectly across three seasons, particularly during the day, though with a bit more application it could see evening wear if it’s not freezing, provided the air is fresh. It projects tenaciously and vibrantly, staying citrusy for the first three hours before transitioning to a lightly powdery floral: the flowers sink into an amber base, emerging in a sweet leather with a subtle musky presence. As Priet says, it’s no bad perfume and offers great value for daily wear or relaxed occasions. I would have preferred a more sober bottle; this abstract, postmodern design might intimidate those with a more refined olfactory culture. 7.5/10
I didn’t like it at all: very harsh and generic. The notes don’t work together, resulting in something ordinary. Overall, it feels rough, lacking refinement, and slightly dated. I see nothing youthful or suitable for the modern man. There are better Liz Claiborne options available.
Completely agree with Bramasole. I stand by their point.
Smells very strong; I can’t quite place it—it’s neither for the young nor the older crowd. It’s a bit of a mystery, reminiscent of the classic Benetton Colors from the 90s: potent but lacking finesse, hard to pinpoint exactly what it smells of, and difficult to wash off. 🫤
