Connubio by Solonoi

For me it is a social fragrance with class. I really recommend Conubio. Not only because it is a unique fragrance in its own way, but also because it is genuinely functional. Of all the Solonoi I tried, perhaps it was not the one that impressed me most on first use — as Bibliothèque, Laberinto and Recíproque did, which blew my mind with their authenticity — but over time it became one of the ones I wear most. I have been wearing it a great deal this Buenos Aires winter, with temperatures between 5 and 10 degrees, especially for gatherings, birthdays and meetings at people’s houses or cafés. It works perfectly with smart clothes, but without going formal (chinos, wool jumper, ecru shirt, shoes or boots). It has that exact balance between sociable and elegant. I don’t see it for an urban hoodie look, but I don’t see it for a suit or black-tie event either. It is something else: a close, adult, comfortable elegance. For me, Conubio fits perfectly into those winter afternoons in the capital, in one of those Buenos Aires cafés located in historic houses, old palaces or hotels with memories. Wooden floors, high ceilings, antique furniture, heating, warm light and an afternoon snack served with care. I can’t imagine it in a modern or minimalist spot, but in a classic Buenos Aires space, with something European, intimate and social. It is a fragrance for being well dressed, but not in black tie: tidy, amiable, classy, without becoming solemn or looking costumed. What I love most is that scent left behind as if after smoking a pipe with Virginia tobacco. Not so much the direct smoke, but what remains in the wood of the pipe once it has been smoked. To that is added a bourbon-like vanilla, a little boozy, and that particular leather DNA I detect in several Solonoi fragrances. The result is elegant, distinguished and sophisticated, but never loud. The performance seems phenomenal to me. It doesn’t invade aggressively, but it holds very well and leaves a clear presence. It is one of those fragrances that accompany without shouting, yet are noticeable. As a curious fact, a friend smelled it at my house and it was the one she liked most for her partner. She even found it very sexy on him. And I understand: it has something attractive, adult and social, without falling into the typical obvious seductive perfume. In that sense, I see it as a great signature scent for an adult, over 30, especially in autumn and winter. A fragrance for gatherings, afternoon snacks, quiet birthdays, historic cafés, old houses and occasions where you want to look well presented without seeming stiff. In short, Conubio doesn’t shout, doesn’t turn heads, but accompanies with class and warm elegance.
