Agonist Dark Saphir is a blend of mystery and elegance, bold and versatile. It combines spicy notes with caramelised sweetness on a spiced oriental base. It projects strongly, making a lasting impression. The brand wants you to imagine breaking a dark sapphire and smelling its scent. It is hard and spicy with a sweet coating that can be confusing. It starts explosively with violet, black pepper, cumin, coriander, ginger and bergamot, but then raspberry and peach emerge to soften it. In the heart, the rich sweetness of the rose is captivating alongside jasmine, iris and carnation, reminiscent of Serge Lutens’ Vitriol d’Oeillet. I don’t quite detect the carrot, perhaps due to a lack of practice, akin to doing nasal sit-ups. Finally, after four or six hours, the woods arrive: oud, guaiac and a touch of acidic patchouli. It is an elegant way to feel unique and happy to wear a dark sapphire on your skin. Longevity is high and the trail is intense.
