  • The first time I used it, it seemed like a very strange smell; the opening reminded me of a perfume from an aunt. I let it rest and used it again on a cold day, and then it did seem rich, very vanilla and spiced. I don’t know if it resembles PDM’s Layton because I’ve never heard it, but it’s a good fragrance for cold days.

It’s a room-filler, the best Layton dupe, an excellent perfume that lasts quite a while and isn’t invasive.

  • ShiseidoTactics

It’s the third time I’ve tested this fragrance on my skin (third visit to the same shop). I didn’t opine before, but today I feel prepared: with such pleasant top notes, the opening even displeased me; I expected something more ‘easy’ and ‘commercial’. I don’t know how it performs in other settings, but where I am, in the shade at 35ºC, I had to walk 300 metres and, of the four fragrances tested, this was the only one that almost completely vanished by the time I got home. Its performance on my skin is very poor. Personally, it didn’t convince me.

  • Bought for £22. Exquisite. An incredible fragrance that any designer brand would bottle and charge triple for. It projects strongly, fresh and mentholated; when dry, it turns sweet and talcum-like. It meets my high expectations. If you want it, it’s like a flanker of JPG’s Ultramale, though it also reminds me of Mugler’s Angel. Ideal for dates, the club, or dressing elegantly: it’s versatile. Is it synthetic? Yes, but several people have found it delicious. Only trained noses can distinguish it; the scent is magnificent. Highly recommended.

  • It’s true that the scent is similar, but the quality difference is enormous, like between a market ham and a five-star one. Personally, it doesn’t convince me as a substitute. The spray is phenomenally good.

I was genuinely disgusted when I first opened it. I tried it again three weeks later and absolutely loved it: elegant and appealing. Curiously, I hated the first contact. Let it rest.

  • I don’t know what Layton smells like, but I had the ‘opportunity’ to sniff the cap and it isn’t pleasant as people claim. It smells like Haramain Intense (an Aventus dupe) but more floral and sweet. I wouldn’t buy it because I wouldn’t wear it.

  • XavicatPerfum

Incredible; I thought it would smell bad due to comments about it smelling synthetic, and the truth is yes, it smells more synthetic than Layton obviously, but it has a very similar scent, it has the mint or menthol note just like Layton. Perhaps in Layton the apple note feels more pronounced than here, but if it’s 85% similar I’d say so. If you are a fan of Layton you will like this; I’m not saying I’d replace it, but perhaps I’d keep Layton for special occasions and this, being cheaper, for casual moments.

I don’t like this perfume at all, or well, the Layton DNA in general. Don’t buy blindly; be careful as it is polarising; you either love it or hate it.

Comparing it to Layton is unfair. I sought it out as a daily wear, but it hasn’t stuck with me. It doesn’t smell bad when dry, but it’s a rare synthetic sweetness that I have to press right up against my nose to detect.

I’ve been wearing Detour Noir for two days and I liked it; it gives me the same vibe and the same pleasure as Layton (I have the 2019 batch). I applied them one on each hand and, smelling them up close, Layton is much more potent, with more depth and density; the quality is noticeable. As time passes (from 30 minutes onwards) the scent becomes more similar, but if I continue to smell them up close, Layton still reflects more depth, surely due to the quality of the ingredients. Overall they smell very similar; I’m not regretting the purchase, I liked it a lot. You can use Detour Noir for daily wear and keep Layton for weekends. As for longevity, Layton takes the lead; I’d say Detour Noir works better in warm climates where Layton could become cloying. Ignore those who say it’s a chemical bomb; it’s a pleasant and wearable perfume. If it’s perceived as Layton with small flaws, I would buy it again. I have 155 bottles and have tried many dupes; this is a good one (rating 8.5 – 9). Much better than Aventus vs CDNI (rating 6.5 – 7).

  • A rich, exquisite, and delicious fragrance. When I started into perfumery I bought a Dior Sauvage clone (Armaf Ventana) because it was versatile and safe, but on the same day I was presented with this gem and regretted my purchase. On my skin it lasts around 12 hours with good projection, not beast mode, for the first 4 hours. Personally it is the richest perfume I have ever heard and, being suitable for cold weather, it has become my signature.

  • Mexperfums

The truth is I was surprised; I always thought Layton would be hard to imitate due to its notes and that unique opening touch. This time Al Haramain proved me wrong; this perfume smells incredible and yes, it is identical to Layton. The only difference is the depth: Layton’s opening is super realistic and deep. This one perhaps lacks that depth at the start, but the dry down is identical; there’s no way to tell them apart unless you have them side by side with a trained nose. I don’t understand the negative comments. I know there are synthetic and rare Arab perfumes, but this is not the case. It smells very good and of quality. I’ve read that for some it smelled odd and improved after letting it rest for a few months, as happened to a friend. For me, it was good from the first spray. A 10, even for layering with the original Layton to make it last longer. Note, the perfume is sweet just like Layton; some people don’t like it either, so if you haven’t heard Layton, try it first. If you have, you’ll surely love it. Good longevity, 6-8 hours, projection about 2 hours very well.

  • I have to say it is THE BEST LAYTON CLONE by Parfums de Marly by far… I bought it blindly months ago without knowing how either this or the original smelled, but I did it due to the hype and positive reviews. I loved the scent from the start… I ME-AN-T. The only downside is it didn’t last long on my skin, about 3 hours, and the projection wasn’t very good despite the initial sillage. I give it maximum marks because the value for money is unbeatable. Later I bought the Layton and the scent is 95-98% identical, which made me hesitate to buy the original as people mention differences in projection and dry down (I don’t notice them, they smell the same) and that the original lasts longer. That is false… and I have to say it despite the 200 euros it cost me. I don’t know if it’s olfactory fatigue or a new reformulation; it lasts the same or less than the Detour Noir and the projection is identical. So, if you like Layton, don’t think twice, don’t buy it, buy the Detour. Don’t let them sell you the story: in my case, smelling them in one hand and then the other at different times, I notice no difference. If they tell you otherwise it’s because they own it and need to justify the 200 euro or more expense, or because they’ve run out of the bargain. Someone will surely come out of the closet with my claim in 3, 2, 1… and if I say the Detour lasts half an hour longer (just 3h) on skin. Buy this one instead, I would have loved to test it before but for me it’s too late. BY THE WAY THE DETOUR NOIR IS 95-98% IDENTICAL. And if you already have it, don’t be tempted like me to buy the original because the disappointment is great. Grand work by Al Haramain. Scent: 9, Longevity: 6, Projection: 6, Price: 10. Rating: 7.75.

Ordered the bottle and the aesthetics are a disaster; the glass quality feels cheap, but the liquid is another story. It’s a very good clone of Layton, though to me it smells more of cinnamon, pepper, and vanilla. Layton has more complexity, but I haven’t tried Detour Noir on skin as they say it needs to macerate first. I’ll update soon.

  • I bought Al Haramain’s Detour Noir before Layton to get an idea of the original, and upon using it, I thought what a bad clone it must be. The sad thing is that when I tried the original Layton, it does resemble it, and a lot, even in the opening. Both have good drying down, obviously Layton’s is better, lasting 8 hours on skin. In summary, I don’t like that Layton DNA, but if you like it, go for this clone. Both have a poor olfactory opening.

  • hugoaguilarr

Someone said it’s very sweet; that’s a lie. It has a harsh and synthetic opening, but before the 10 minutes it loosens up and starts to reveal, in my opinion, a spicy vanilla (pepper and geranium). For two hours it’s a warm spicy perfume; it’s not beast mode projecting but will be at its peak, very good. Then the spices that make the perfume potent fade, leaving the vanilla, its sweetest point but in no way cloying, a warm vanilla. It’s not very deep, but the development is noticeable. Scent: 8.5/10. Longevity: 10 to 12 hours. Projection: 7/10. Price: 10/10. Rating: 8/10 for a signature winter perfume, quite wearable if you like warm spicy perfumes.

  • Oliver_SL

This perfume is exquisite; at first, it hits you with a cloying synthetic sweetness. But if you let it macerate, it turns into a tremendous gem. It’s not for blind buying, but if you have the chance to try it or already smell PDM’s Layton, you will definitely like it a lot. The opening is mentholated with predominant lavender, fresh and slightly sweet, not sharp or heavy, gradually disappearing to leave a light vanilla, fresh-mentholated, and soft warm woods. I’ve tried it on cold skin and it’s a beauty; so far, it doesn’t give me olfactory fatigue, and with the wind, that vanilla aroma with soft woods and a touch of fresh mint is noticeable. Perhaps at first it seems like cream all of a sudden, but it’s very subtle; the lavender takes the lead. If you like lavender, vanilla, or soft woods, this is your perfume. The resemblance to Layton is enormous, to the point of being identical. Trained noses might find a difference, but the majority won’t. Only in the warm woods might there be a slight difference, but unless you have both side by side, you won’t notice it. You will, however, notice the price difference: Layton costs almost seven times more. Although its ingredients are of better quality, I don’t think it’s a good option to spend on Layton (of course, if you have the means, go ahead, it’s of high quality), but if not, Detour Noir is a gem that should be in your collection.

  • DavidGentleman

Synthetic? Yes. Does it resemble Layton? Yes. Would I recommend it? Yes. A proper perfume; for the price, you can’t ask for more.

  • BassoProfumo

Probably one of the best (if not the best) price/quality/performance ratios available right now in perfumery. It even smells more masculine and ‘rough’ than other clones like Royal Bleu or North Stag Deux. Really, very good.

  • If this is the inspiration, the original must be an olfactory orgasm. 3 hours of longevity and trail (obviously decreasing, which is normal), with 7-8 hours of total wear. Batch 2024, no complaints whatsoever; it’s a fragrance that surprised me.

  • I tried PDM’s Layton in a US store and, like this one, I didn’t like it at first: a very strong and woody opening. But as it dries down, what a rich aroma, vanilla and warm spicy. It resembles Layton quite a bit; I’d say 85-90%. Excellent quality/price; I recommend it fully for $25. Above all, it smells rich and cheap; I have other more expensive perfumes and this beats them by a long shot.

  • What an ugly bottle, but what a beautiful fragrance. The atomiser is 10/10, with moderate to strong longevity and projection. For the price, it’s a 10/10.

  • The opening is strange; it lasts less than a minute before drying down, but it smells rich. I don’t know the original Layton. It has good longevity and projection; at first, I thought it didn’t suit me and re-applied, until someone told me I had drenched myself in perfume (it always shows). I attribute that to olfactory fatigue. Perfect for spring, autumn, and winter.

  • A very successful clone of Layton, hitting 85-90% similarity. It retains that warm, spicy essence but with a darker character. The opening is synthetic and floral, slightly harsh and dry at first, less creamy, but as it dries down the resemblance becomes evident with those vanilla and woody notes that make it addictive. It lasts well, with a moderate and elegant trail that doesn’t invade. The curious thing is that no one notices the difference from the original, making it a top alternative for not spending too much, especially given the price. The bottle is ugly, but that goes out the window once you smell it. A masculine, versatile, and fulfilling fragrance, ideal for autumn/winter, dates, or cool nights where you want to project elegance without going too sweet. A hidden gem from Al Haramain. The best quality/price ratio in my collection. Rating: 8.5/10

  • There’s something that doesn’t quite add up in this perfume, not even in the dry-down where it improves considerably, but it remains a ‘close, close’ call. It’s as if it never quite feels ’rounded’. I’m not saying it’s bad, but it doesn’t convince me. Scent: 6. Projection: 5.5. Longevity: 6.5.

  • Lopstarworker

A satisfactory fragrance. It’s not a bomb or beast mode, but it has something: it’s easy to like. It starts with a soft powdery citrus aroma. In the heart, I don’t know why, it takes me to Natura Homen Essense, only that this one is slightly more woody and sweet. I think it’s very versatile for daily wear. For the price, 8/10.

  • peperinafragancia

I own and love Layton, and I’ve used this Detour Noir to avoid using up my bottle too quickly; it’s a very good option, very similar to Layton. In its dry-down (after 5 minutes), it resembles it greatly, and it impresses me that, for its low price, it smells of good quality, not synthetic. Longevity and projection are also good. Obviously, they’re not 100% identical and Layton is unique, but I think it gets close to 95%. I recommend it for those who like Layton.

  • What can I say? I love it; it’s a very legitimate dupe and a beast on skin (at least on mine). Longevity on skin is easily over 12 hours and on clothes for weeks. It was my first Arabic perfume; I had Layton on a blotter and this Detour Noir on another, and in the dry-down it was impossible to distinguish them. For its value, it doesn’t feel synthetic or low quality; it’s totally worth it.

  • javier cabeza de perfume

The opening didn’t suit me, but the dry-down smells lovely. Scent: at first, it smells like overripe apple, luckily only for 5 minutes; then it becomes more pleasant, masculine and mature. Longevity: I estimate 7-8 hours and it’s quite oily as expected from an EDP. Projection: projects well for 1h30, then becomes more normal.

There’s a missing review from a woman, and more than that, a sincere one. I know tastes are colours, but even though it’s inspired by something expensive, it smells terrible. I hated it. My husband wanted something different, and I tell him: if he likes fresh scents, this isn’t it. It’s too powdery, smells vintage but in a bad way. My husband had the Safari and although it’s not my type, I can see its good side: vintage but sophisticated. Here, I saw nothing good; the dry-down didn’t hold up either; it smells dirty, damp, awful… That’s where my gift ended up, all because he chose (joke, but I wanted to try something new 🤷🏻♀️). Oh, and it’s too expensive for such a poor quality, jeez, ugly haha, I hate it! Hahaha

  • Smells good for the price, but it fades quickly. I still have half a bottle left. Also, the cap is the worst invention by a manufacturer.

  • Honestly, I’m reviewing this fragrance I just bought and wear at work. I like it, but I don’t love it yet; I’m hoping it will grow on me. I tested it on blotter and skin a month ago: it smells incredible, though I’ve smelled better things. Many people hype it up, but in my opinion, there’s a 90-95% similarity with Layton. The difference lies in the harmony and ingredient quality of Layton, being a niche scent. I’m not saying it’s bad; quite the opposite: it’s exquisite, elegant, seductive, and sophisticated, but there are better options. Is it worth it? Absolutely! Will you smell different and attractive? A resounding yes! To conclude, I’m sure it will end up being my favourite. I’ll let it rest and wear it in a month; that’s how it happened with others.

  • petrowski4

For special occasions, it’s a bit sweeter than I was looking for, which is why I see it as unisex. It’s fresh, but if you apply too much, it becomes heavy. Smells clean and sweet; I wouldn’t wear it daily. 8/10
