Eau de Vetyver has a citrus opening and quickly moves into a mature, classic scent with good persistence. Ideal for those who love this type of fragrance, and especially the vetiver, which can often be quite strong.
The opening is brief, but the vetiver with soft cedar feels natural from the start. Then the guaiac wood and nutmeg blend in, bringing back hints of the earlier citrus, a touch of delicate lemon. It begins green before settling into woods with an earthy nuance. Of what I’ve tried, it’s the closest to the Puig (discontinued and much missed), a more refined and polished take on that green-woody style. Ideal for anyone missing the Puig. Here it costs $69 for 100ml. Moderate trail, and I’m unsure of the actual longevity as this was a strip test.
It opens with soft citrus, nothing like the Givenchy or Guerlain versions. Then the vetiver emerges, but not overpoweringly. It’s linear with a moderately soft trail. After four hours, I can’t detect much on the clothes. They say it’s natural and uncomplicated, but I prefer the Guerlain or Givenchy.
Although my King Vetiver remains the Fat Electrician by Etat Libre d’Orange, this one gives the Guerlain 2000 and Puig versions a real run for their money. I tested it on skin and paper, and it evolves like a champion, a genuine treat. Have I mentioned that its dry-down is masterful? That’s definitely its strength. Now I understand why it’s always featured in the top 10 vetiver lists on forums. Beyond the citrus and woods, it has a certain ‘nose’ that makes it unique. I WANT IT! Moderate sillage, good longevity, and excellent fixative qualities.
