  I’ve never tried other fig scents from Roger & Gallet, but I’ve heard this one is identical to their latest. Fig is a notoriously difficult note; it carries immense power and tends to overpower everything else, leaving behind a sticky, cloying blend. I absolutely hate it; sometimes it even gives me a headache. Depending on the day, my hunger, or whether I’m feeling unwell, I won’t include it in my must-haves because, although I occasionally enjoy it, I usually find it stubborn, repetitive, and heavy. This version lacks subtlety; Feuille de Figuier is nothing but a fig hangover. Curiously, I struggle to find the brand’s usual crystalline, radiant naturalness. The opening is an abomination: rather than green fig, it smells of a bonfire with woody undertones and sweet, acidic red fruits. The dry down abandons the brand’s lovely citrus notes to be seduced by ultra-sweet, sticky fragrances reminiscent of Lancôme. Is it gourmand? I’m not sure, but it clashes with my taste; it’s a harsh fig that reminds me of vulgar perfumes with pink ribbons and stoppers. It doesn’t quite fit, but that’s what it is. It lasts quite well for an EDT; the first hour is so intense it feels like it’s burning your eyes, then it mellows and seems to reveal a more realistic fig with floral nuances. I can’t detect neroli or petit grain; I only smell a radioactive, fluorescent fig, burning in an acidic sweetness, perhaps with lemon giving it a sour edge until the very end. Worth it for lovers of the family as it lasts, smells distinct, and always has a patch to mend. PS: The bottle surprised me; they usually take care of the packaging, but this is a shoddy piece of plastic with stripes that looks amateurish.
