Gentlewoman by Juliette Has A Gun is a citrus fragrance for women. Launched in 2015, this composition was created by perfumer Romano Ricci. The opening features neroli, bergamot and bitter orange blossom, delivering a luminous and fresh start. The heart reveals a floral and woody harmony with lavender, bitter orange blossom, almond and coumarin. The base settles on musk, ambroxan and woody notes that add warmth and longevity.

  • The opening reminds me of the Sanborns cologne from Mexico: neroli mixed with orange. After an hour, the intensity drops and it stays close to the skin, without variations, very linear. What is pleasing is that it’s not bitter, although it is soapy. It lasts 6 hours; at the hour, the trail is close to the skin. Due to the resemblance to something cheap, I don’t recommend buying it.

I just got it, I was leaning towards Mmm but it didn’t convince me, and due to its sweetness, it’s not ideal for summer in the southern hemisphere. I decided on Gentlewoman: quite fresh, lavender predominates, along with neroli and bergamot. The name describes it all: an androgynous perfume, created for a female audience but that perfectly complements the masculine.

  • For the past 40 years, Nenuco has been the most popular cologne in Spain, for babies although used by everyone (very unfortunate in my opinion). It’s difficult to describe its citrusy and unnatural aroma (neroli and sharp lemon) because it’s so characteristic that when I smell something similar, I think “Nenuco”. Imagine its weight in the Spanish olfactory memory. Gentlewoman smells like Nenuco in Eau de Parfum concentration: identical, copied. Perhaps there’s a slight difference: a background of bitter almonds is felt, nice if not for the rest. I never liked Nenuco and this won’t change. Trail moderate-heavy at the start, longevity doesn’t pass 6-7 hours.

  • I started with high hopes, but the dry-down reminds me of Jean Nate. It’s citrusy, brash, and almost synthetic. The trail feels heavy and the longevity is moderate. I wouldn’t buy it and I’m sure I won’t finish the sample.

  • I thought I would like it. The opening reminds me of Jean Nate: citrusy and shrill, almost synthetic. For me, the trail is heavy and the longevity is moderate. I wouldn’t buy it and I’m sure I won’t finish the sample.

I had a sample of this niche. I used it yesterday, and as the specialist said, it’s unisex. At first, it reminded me of the childish cologne Nenuco (very pretty), then it becomes adult: fresh, citrusy, floral. For me, it’s a white colour. Ladies like it a lot, but I repeat: it’s unisex. It’s pleasant, graceful, and serious. I wouldn’t buy it because this type of proposal is abundant, and being a niche, it’s very expensive. The trail is good, not a monster, and the longevity and pyramid are achieved but very subtle. Totally daytime, better in the morning, nothing for the night. Yes for women, but also for men without any issues.

  • I don’t like the opening: it’s a steroid-like cologne, very strident. Unfortunately, it lasts half an hour to an hour on my skin. Once it dries, the composition does shine: citrus, almond neroli (its particularity), and a musky base. Soft trail and a real longevity of 8-9 hours. Due to the unpleasant opening, low projection, price, and having better nerolis available, I wouldn’t include it in my collection. Scent 5.5/10, Longevity 8.5/10, Sillage 4/10, Value for money 3/10, Versatility 6.5/10, Packaging 7.5/10. I wouldn’t buy it.

  • I understand it might seem like a childish cologne due to that familiar neroli, but it’s for those who appreciate the note, no deception intended. The perfumer achieved something difficult: a neroli suitable for adults, men, and women. It’s accompanied by citrus and a delicate lavender that provides cleanliness and a tolerable masculine touch. A exquisite and subtle almond note keeps it away from the childish, without overwhelming like the one in Guerlain’s L’Homme Ideal, acting as a supporting actor with an Oscar. The name Gentlewoman fits perfectly. Differences with Tom Ford’s Neroli Portofino are notable for connoisseurs. Ideal for the office: neat, luminous, delicate. You need more sprays for it to last 4/5 hours, but it’s worth reapplying. Perfect for spring, summer, and mild autumn. While others use neroli conventionally, this is for enjoying oneself, gifting peace and good spirits. I clarify that neroli and orange blossom are the same ingredient, but the distillation or dissolution process changes the scent entirely.
