To the point: yes, it is a perfume, a clean, soapy ambroxan with a shine and a touch of synthetic cedar. It’s fun, clean, and the performance is decent. The sillage is moderate, ideal to apply after a shower and leave a trail of perfumed soap. Excellent for the day, to take to work with jeans and shirt or blouse, a casual style. It also goes well for coming home, it has a relaxing air. It’s a neat and friendly perfume.
More than a perfume, it’s a ‘tone’. It smells of synthetic cleanliness (ambroxan) that works perfectly neutrally. It’s destined for those who want to smell good almost without realising; it doesn’t bother anyone, neither the wearer nor those who smell it. It’s for those who can’t stand the classic floral diadem and prefer to smell clean without exaggerating, like Armani She or Swim. In my case, I have it as a puzzle piece for my home mixing lab.
On paper it smells cosy and clean, but on my skin I don’t detect it (or is it that subtle musk I don’t notice?). I’ve read that 35% of people don’t get ambroxan due to lack of receptors, so better to try before spending. Pleasant: -/10, Interesting: -/10, Versatile: -/10, Original: -/10.
I love the scent, the only bad thing is it doesn’t last long on my skin. It smells very clean and doesn’t invade, but for the price it should leave a greater trail.
I tested it today and it is 100% ambroxan, pure and hard. In Barcelona you can go to Maese Pau or Olfatorium, buy the ingredient, dilute it with alcohol to the percentage you like, and you’re done, for less than 20 euros. If you dare, look for other molecules like Iso E Super, Hedione, or Galaxolide to add a touch and create your own flankers. It’s cheap and fun, what more could you ask for?
It looks very nice, but it only smells like skin notes once applied. I don’t ask it to knock people over, but at least have some presence.
Obviously, when visiting molecular perfumes, I had to stop at Not a Perfume. Being crazy about Glossier You, I wanted something similar in case they discontinued it. I arrived at Another 13 and here I am. Total: the first spray made me fall in love. I’ve never smelled my skin so rich with NAP on. I felt it sweet and musky, with a salty wood touch, but what I noticed most was the ambroxan (which always sticks to my skin) and that clean laundry scent I adore. On paper it seems non-existent, but on skin and hair it does magic. Until yesterday, no one asked what I was wearing, until two people told me I ‘smelled delicious’. That makes me think NAP does smell, despite reviews saying it has no presence. It’s true the cetalox disappears abruptly, perhaps due to anosmia or the product’s strength, and it’s strange to feel like you smell like nothing. But during the day, little waves of aroma arrive and I know it’s still there. Also, I’ve mixed it with You, Ariana Grande’s Vanilla Mod, and Al Rehab’s Choco Musk. What a wonder! I’ve sprayed my decant without fear of it running out and I’m thinking of buying the 100 ml because it’s incredible. But here comes the other magic: Dossier released a super good dupe costing 500 pesos plus shipping. With my decant and the dupe, I’ll remain the happiest person in the county, smelling of pretentious molecules. And let the world roll on.
I tested it today and at first I thought it was very muted, but later that subtle floral musk won me over; it’s like a Dior mist that is no longer sold.
I bought this perfume blindly based on reviews claiming it ‘smells like nothing’ and gifted it to myself for my 45th birthday. The packaging in the black foam box is nice, but upon application, the scent is very soft, though pleasant, clean, with a citrusy touch. Yesterday I only tested it once and it was faint, but today, after a good shower before work, I applied a drop to each arm and another on my neck. That’s all! Throughout the entire day and afternoon at the office, I could still smell it, and now at 2 am it’s still noticeable. It has low intensity but doesn’t go unnoticed. I highly recommend it; they say it potentiates other perfumes, so tomorrow I’ll test it with my YSL jumpsuit, which is delicious.
I read so many good reviews about this ‘perfume’ that as soon as I saw it, I bought it. For me, it has been a total disappointment: zero sillage, minimal longevity, and regarding the scent, it smells like a new plastic doll. You can only smell it if you sniff it directly where you applied it. I understand it depends on everyone’s pH, but in my case, I simply didn’t like it. I’ll have to try layering to see if that works.
It smells pleasantly clean, fresh clean skin, I love it 🥰
After being curious about this non-perfume for a long time, I finally bought it. I’ll leave my first impressions after an hour of wearing it on my wrist to update later: the scent is extremely intimate and close to the skin. It’s very clean but too soft; I have to press my nose to feel it. On my skin, it smells a bit of pear and sea salt, but very, very soft, almost invisible. I thought it would be more noticeable, and now I’m wondering if the 35% of people who don’t detect this scent feel nothing or feel it very softly (like me). I’d love to resolve this to know if it’s the scent it takes on my skin or if I’m part of that 35%. I’ll keep updating.
I met it at a sample and loved it; a clean, woody and modern scent with excellent projection and longevity, I had to have it, so I bought it and now it only smells close to the skin 🙄, leaving me very confused. Perhaps it’s because I’m in another city with more heat and humidity, I don’t know; I’ll let it macerate for a few weeks to see what happens.
It smells great; at first, there’s a slightly acidic touch but not citrusy, then powdery and sweet. It’s fresh and lovely, but it lasts zero on the skin. On clothes, it holds up well, though you need several sprays because the atomiser is more of a mist. I mix it with Versace’s Bright Crystal and it’s top-notch; you smell fresh and the scent of both is boosted.
I find it very soft; it comes out slightly synthetic and on my skin it settles into an amber, warm and a bit woody (like shavings). After five hours, it’s sweeter and musky, just like when Clean Reserve’s Skin dries down, and that’s what I like most. However, unfortunately, it projects nothing and leaves no sillage, which disappoints me. If it lasts well (seven hours on my skin), it doesn’t justify the cost if you can’t smell it within 10 cm. I recommend trying it on skin (if it matches, it’s beautiful), although it’s not for blind buying as you might be anosmic to it. It’s sensual and 100% unisex.
This fragrance lives up to its name: it’s not a perfume, it’s a ‘booster’ to give a special touch to the rest of the collection. It’s like Narciso Rodriguez Pure Musk; if you mix it with the others in the line, it gives the rest an incredible character.
It was a blind buy with trepidation after my bad experience with Glossier’s You, where the pepper was too much. On trying it… what an intimate, soft and different fragrance! I don’t know how to describe it. I wore it for a week; sometimes it disappeared and other times it came back in waves, so I assumed it activated with my body heat or sweat. Two people asked why it smelled so good, and indeed it’s noticeable to others even if I don’t feel it myself. I haven’t tried it as a fixative yet, as they say it boosts too. This scent truly lives up to the motto: ‘your skin but better’. Would I buy it again? I already have: two more bottles, the cream, the detergent and the room spray. I love it for everyday wear.
If you’re going to buy it, it’s for mixing to boost another perfume. It smells very chemical to me and is impossible to wear on its own. It doesn’t smell like ambroxan, just Cetalox (that synthetic ambergris chemical that sounds like pure alcohol to me).
I’ve always wanted to give my daughter something more ‘serious’; up until now, she only used Victoria’s Secret or cheap bits from Amazon. A few weeks ago, I smelled NOT A PERFUME after reading good reviews, and since her name is JULIETTE, it was a perfect fit. Its scent is simple and suits her age (13 years) brilliantly.
I bought it blindly out of curiosity and got the best surprise: it smells incredible, soft and delicate, simply beautiful. My husband says it’s like my skin after wearing D&G’s Light Blue (though they’re not related), but he agrees it’s delicious the next day. It’s worth every penny for me; I can’t wait to layer it with my favourites 💚
On my skin it smells exactly like the Tony Moly panda cream. Luckily for me, I love that scent and in fact I was looking for something that smelled similar. It was a blind buy and a pleasant surprise!!!
Nothing new under the sun, smells clean and endearing, super intimate that you notice when you press your nose against the skin.
Although it’s made to enhance other perfumes when layering, for me it only gives a super woody air and at times ambered. I don’t like mixing perfumes so I don’t know if it really enhances other scents or not, but by itself it smells clean, good, for wearing in winter. It reminds me of my beloved Pure Musc being for use with other Narciso Rodriguez perfumes but it’s so rich it doesn’t need to be mixed with another.
It’s a rare fragrance. I absolutely love it. I think after trying so many scents, this is for those who have already tried everything hahaha it’s hard to explain, because anyone I show my little perfumes to gets puzzled by this… that it smells like nothing, that it’s a scam, etc. Probably even I myself would have thought that a few years ago. But it’s a breath of fresh air amidst so many gourmands, so many sharp Arab scents, so many of everything. I shared it with a friend who came to stay for the summer and on him it had a tremendous trail. It smelled exquisite.
I ordered it blindly because in Argentina they only have it at Perfumerías Rouge. My brother smells more citrusy notes, while I smell it sweeter, although it’s a single note that changes according to the skin. Alone, no one has said anything and it barely projects beyond 5 cm; it’s for enjoying yourself. But in layering it’s a different story: they keep praising it! I was floored, because with just one nobody said anything, but when I mixed it with JHAG at work everyone asked. The two combos people have asked about most are with LVEB Rose Extraordinaire (they say I smell rich, sweet and fresh at the same time) and with classic VS Bombshell (a colleague told me it reminded him of a girl from high school he really liked). In summary: alone it’s just for me, but mixed it’s a power bomb and compliments. P/S: does anyone in Argentina confirm if the spray also arrived faulty? Mine leaks a lot of product from the sides when pressed, and I just bought JHAG Pear Inc and it has the same flaw 🫠
What a beautiful fragrance! It literally smells like clean skin, but with a good, balanced pH. Maybe it smells a bit like makeup, I love it. It’s a fragrance that doesn’t smell bad; some perfumes end up smelling cheap or even ‘pee’, as my mum says, hahaha, this is not the case. The downside is it doesn’t last. At most for me it lasts 2 hours, throughout the day I get waves, and on clothes it even smells after washing. I think it depends a lot on your pH and the fabric. I’d bathe with this perfume if it didn’t cost almost 4,000 Mexican pesos; you have to reapply every two hours and it doesn’t last more than 5 months. But ohhhh! It’s so rich!
I think all the reviews I’ve read are spot on. A neutral fragrance, almost works as a base if you like mixing, smells clean and fresh, but without intensity. It’s a personal scent. I feel it could work better as a shower splash if it didn’t cost what it does. It has nothing particular; of all the brand’s fragrances, it’s the least intense, like a soft wildcard for gifting or for people who don’t love perfumes.
When I was a child, I loved smelling my mum’s perfume bottles. This scent led me to that: something you don’t know what it is, but you can’t stop wanting to feel again. It’s for feeling good and relaxed. I imagine people sense a very faint, imprecise breeze when you pass very close. I think the name is perfect. It’s expensive, but its effect is very special. Perhaps that justifies the price.
Essentially an Escentric Molecules style, just one ingredient: ambroxan and cetalox emulating ambergris. It’s a clean, synthetic, very subtle scent that causes rapid olfactory fatigue. It’s pleasant and cosy, but hard to perceive and gets lost to the nose. I sprayed it 8 times and found it weak; after a few minutes I couldn’t smell it, yet my wife at two metres says it smells like clean laundry. I was surprised I couldn’t notice it myself. It’s disappointing because the scent is frankly good, but difficult to smell. I like this style, like Prada’s Infusion d’Iris or Nasomatto’s Silver Musk, but here I notice it only in faint bursts. It needs more maceration than others. Ideal for nursing or the office, as unisex as it is feminine, for day, spring and summer. Absolutely casual. Good longevity.
Molecular scent ‘your skin but better’. On my skin it reads more ambered than musky, with a subtly sweet touch. I don’t notice major nuances, but I don’t need them. It’s a soft, very intimate fragrance. I’ve tried layering it with others from the house and… meh, I don’t feel it enhances them. I’d wear it alone, ideal for the office. It lasts over 10 hours on the skin, but with projection only 3 or 4. Although I like it, it’s not where I’d invest my money.
It is a perfume that focuses on highlighting your scent. It is simple, neat, and subtle. The opening is like when you go to the beach early in the morning, it is cold, and the breeze brings you a cold freshness, I hope my example makes sense. In short… Its name says Not A Perfume; it is not about generating a particular aroma, whoever wears it smells like themselves but with greater notability if that makes any sense. It is not invasive; in fact, sometimes I struggle to smell it. The bottle is beautiful. At first, I had problems because it spilled a bit, but it did not happen again, so I cannot complain any more about that. The truth is, I think if you are someone who is bothered by strong scents but wants to try wearing a very subtle perfume, this would be a good option. It is also functional for those who like to layer. However, it is a perfume that leaves something to be desired regarding its price if you are someone who likes their perfume to be perceived by those around them, and it does not have great longevity for me… about 3-4 hours.
Come on, first of all. The scent cannot be fully described. It is a very uncommon simple ‘clean’ smell that you only find in these synthetic particles. It is not projective, not challenging. It is a second skin. I have a dupe from Dossier called Musky Musk and if I am being honest, I believe it smells at least 50-100% better than Juliette. Neither projects; I have asked and no one smells it from afar. Everyone likes it, but it is very intimate. You get bursts of scent from both throughout the day. I have tested both and they are very similar, at least 80-90%. If you want to smell them in Sephora, I have seen them, and Dossier just smells stronger. You cannot imagine the aroma; you have to smell it. I think it works better as a layering agent, as it makes fragrances more ‘clean’. Super subtle and not annoying.
What a strange experience. First, I smelled ‘baby perfume’, soft citrus, fresh, with quite a bit of alcohol which fortunately dissolves quickly. I rubbed it a bit to appreciate it and suddenly something metallic took over my nose, a smell of stone, of metal, it faded quickly and left this first pleasant and soft aroma. (All this right under the nose). I do not see an occasion for using this scent alone, but rather as a base for others to create layering.
I had to learn to understand this fragrance. It was escaping me. Indeed, it didn’t smell like perfume to me, it smelled like me. A scent between fruity and powdery, soft, almost indefinable, that escaped my sense of smell. I didn’t know if I couldn’t perceive it (as happens to me with Baccarat Rouge 540 by MFK) due to its synthetic molecules, or if the perfume was just like that. I had to learn to ‘see’ it, to feel it, because it is an ethereal, atmospheric scent, a subtle waft that comes and goes. It is true, you have to smell it, because I am convinced it transforms on every skin. It is not a perfume, it is a very faint sensation in the air, one that first rises and then settles, but like a feather can do. It smells clean, slightly powdery. It becomes addictive and pleasant in its lightness, not in longevity, but in sillage. Of course, it is a game that confuses. It highlights your own scent and blends with it. For daily wear, winter.
This is ambroxan, in a pretty bottle and sold 600% more expensively than buying 100ml online.
Too expensive and it’s like pouring water on yourself, but fine, they warn you: ‘not a perfume’. It is our fault for buying it.
The perfumer engineer who based their comment on this says it is ambroxan, but sold much more expensively. If you know that ambroxan is nothing more than the chemical substitute for ambergris, which is truly expensive… Secondly, buying liquid ambroxan and applying it would not result as this person indicates; I think it would be more feasible to start offering an opinion based on the experience of having bought and tested it, rather than speaking about what we read on the internet, so as not to guide anyone to expand their experience in the magnificent world of essences.
DO NOT BUY THIS FRAGRANCE BLIND. I was about to buy Not A Perfume without smelling it; fortunately, I had the opportunity to test it on my skin today… at first, I perceived an ink-like scent, but after a few seconds, I found a great similarity with Light Blue by Dolce & Gabbana, of course, minus a bit of the floral and citrus notes. In short, it is not the scent I expected considering the notes and descriptions on Fragrantica and other reviews; if you want to buy it, take the base notes of that Dolce & Gabbana fragrance as a reference.
Unfortunately, I tested it and it turned out to be the exact scent I have always loved. I am no longer interested in anything else. My search is over. The opening didn’t suit me; it smells like a hospital, slightly astringent and faint, but the dry-down is quick and it is the scent that skin needs. Be careful with the sillage: it seems to sit right on the skin because it is simple and soft, yet it feels omnipresent. I tested it alongside Tommy Girl on the other arm, and this one stood out all the time, plus it soaks into everything it touches. Spectacular. A pity about the price because I would love to smell this all the time, but it is very expensive to ‘waste’ after a shower or at the gym, but without a doubt, it will be my next purchase.
I was really hoping for that clean, special scent I imagined, but upon testing it on my wrist, I thought: what a joke? It smelled like nothing, just paper. Then I layered another fragrance on top to see if it would mix well… I can’t remember which one it was, but the result was a super unpleasant mixture that forced me to wash my hands immediately. I don’t know if it just doesn’t suit my skin, but it was a total letdown.
