I love Maison Matiné fragrances and here in Spain I don’t see people talking about them much, yet it’s a house with fantastic scents. The bottles are a treat, collaborating with graphic designers, and they’re good value, around 50/60 euros for 100ml. My first fragrance from the house was this Hasard Bazar; I’m using it a lot on a daily basis. It’s a floral fragrance with a pleasant spicy touch that eventually turns into a soft vanilla. It’s so nice to wear with little scarves. Suitable for all seasons and occasions, as it’s sweet but in a soft, not overwhelming way. Hasard Bazar is the most gourmand aroma of all from Maison Matiné; I think it’s quite unisex, it will look lovely on a man and a woman. Ane Ayo, its creator, is the author of A Drop by Issey Miyake. So I love this house and don’t understand why it’s not more known, so gentlemen, if you can, give them a chance.
A great discovery from this brand. I bought a set of nine samples (Nature Insolente, Poom Poom, Esprit de Contradiction, Hasard Bazar, Warni Warni, Bain de Midi, Avant l’Orage, Into the Wild and Lost in Translation). There’s a lot of quality across all their fragrances; some are very original and unheard of (like Bain de Midi, my favourite, or Poom Poom with kiwi), or remind me of other perfumes. Others, like this one, are clear inspirations of well-known scents. On my nose, it smells like Tom Ford Noir Extreme, but with less cloying sweetness. A sweet and citrusy opening, spiced, where the vanilla gradually makes its presence felt without becoming dominant. I hate dominant, overly sweet vanillas. I don’t perceive the rose note in the heart phase, as the sweetness of the tonka bean and the dark touch of patchouli predominate. A 100% winter perfume, it adds warmth and a sensual touch. I like it.
Hasard Bazard has a very Hermès Merveilles stamp. This opening phase doesn’t last long, that slightly stuck mist typical of the pepper and rose blend, but it makes its presence felt. It’s an aroma with a deceptively fresh start that moves into a balanced sweetness, very wearable and not invasive. Another discreet fragrance, more than suitable for smelling good in enclosed spaces. Not one of my Maison Matine favourites, but a very lovely and elegant scent in the dry-down, soapy and it could easily resemble a good Cartier.
Creamy and light, but with an intoxicating rose lurking just beneath the surface. It shows its dorsal fin a couple of times in the opening, but then hides away. Very correct, very modern, perfectly wearable. It evokes sensations similar to Kenzo’s Flower, though they aren’t too alike. Smells like freshly washed face makeup, like a mother’s hug when coming out of school on a cold day.
I tried it in the discovery set and hope to add it to my collection soon. It’s quality and comforting, like a hug or a cashmere blanket. Like all fragrances from this house, it doesn’t offend anyone and can be worn on any occasion.
Rose, vanilla and musk. Soft and easy for everyday wear. The bottle is my favourite in the house and I really wanted to like it, but it didn’t say anything new to me. Plus, it lacks both longevity and projection on my skin (like most from this house). A pity.
