  I don’t know why, but it reminded me of Dior Homme. I’m sure Montblanc wanted to compete with those; that’s my speculation. It also olfactively recalls Calvin Klein Euphoria. It’s elegant, but much rougher and wilder than the Presence, Presence Cool and Legend. In the dry-down, it smells like Terre d’Hermès… Versatile (from fresh to cold), breaking its house’s norm, more passionate and sexual. A recommendation from a Fragrantica colleague that was 100% spot on.

  I do not know why, but I thought of the Dior Homme family. I am sure Mont Blanc wanted to compete with them; it is just my speculation. It also brings to mind olfactively the Calvin Klein Euphoria. It is very elegant, but much rougher and wilder than the Presence, Presence Cool, and Legend. In its dry-down, it reminds me of Terre d’Hermès… Versatile (from fresh to cold climates), a fragrance that breaks the rule of its house, much more passionate and sexual! A recommendation made to me by a colleague on the FRAGANTICA forum was spot on.

  Despite being for men, I was fascinated by it. I found it mysterious and addictive; you want to keep smelling it; it is delicious and truly interesting. I would use it in winter; I definitely believe it is a fairly unisex scent.

  It is a very masculine and elegant perfume; its fragrance is captivating because you want to keep smelling it at every instant. It lasts about 6 hours; afterwards, the intensity drops but it does not stop being felt in a very intimate way. They did not err in showing the image of a man dressed in formal attire; it is precisely the perfume for the occasion. I widely recommend it for winter and evening use.

  It’s a very masculine and elegant perfume; its scent is captivating because you feel like smelling it again and again. Longevity is about 6 hours; afterwards, the intensity drops but it’s felt in a very intimate way. They didn’t miss the mark with the image of a gentleman; it’s exactly the perfume for that occasion. I recommend it widely for winter and evening.

  Citrusy, sweet, subdued but not going unnoticed. Almost exclusively for the evening and cold climates; using it on a hot day is a guarantee of nausea.

  Excellent! Smells like Terre d’Hermès with coffee. It has decent longevity and sillage. It’s one of my favourites and very different from Montblanc’s usual style. PS: I love blends and have tried everything; I can say this fragrance with Givenchy’s PI is exquisite. I confirm it with the compliments I receive; you should try it! (Apply PI then H.E. on top). The sillage and fixation are brutal, and the dry-down is the best.

  Excellent. It resembles a Terre d’Hermès with coffee. It has acceptable longevity and trail. It is one of my favourites and very different from the usual Mont Blanc line. PS: I really like combinations. This fragrance mixed with Givenchy’s PI has resulted in an exquisite scent, which I prove by the compliments I receive; you should try it (apply PI and then H.E. on top). The trail and fixative power are enormous, and the dry-down is the best.

  Updated 15/11/2015: After several months, I have started to like it more. It opens intensely with lavender, coffee, and orange. After an hour, it takes on a fresher character. It is simple, economical, and effective, ideal for the evening, autumn, or winter. When I am unsure about an evening event, Exceptionnel solves it. As I said before: ‘It is not pretentious, but it does not go unnoticed; it maintains a moderate trail, nothing invasive.’ Be careful! If you over-apply, it can cause disgust. It is not for teenagers, but if they think it suits them, go ahead. Would I recommend it? Yes! Would I buy it again? Yes! I conclude as I began: ‘Masculine, deep, elegant, mysterious, captivating, exquisite, passionate, addictive.’

  Update 15/11/2015: After using it for several months, I’ve started to like it more. It opens strongly with lavender, coffee and orange. After an hour, the scent becomes fresher. It’s simple, economical and effective, ideal for evening, autumn or winter. When I’m unsure what to wear for a night event, Exceptionnel solves it. As I said before: ‘It’s not pretentious, but it doesn’t go unnoticed; moderate sillage, nothing invasive’. Careful! If you overdo it, it becomes unpleasant. I don’t think it’s ideal for teenagers, but if they think it’s suitable, go ahead. Should I recommend it? Yes! Would I buy it again? Yes! With the same words from my first review: ‘Masculine, deep, elegant, mysterious, captivating, exquisite, passionate, addictive’.

  I can add that I detect a subtle note of oud, which reminds me of clones of the famous Aventus. It’s woody, slightly ambered, with little projection but smells very good. It’s more for intimate enjoyment, in enclosed spaces and without distracting scents. Perhaps the woody notes remind me a bit of the smell of Fabel Castell colouring pencils.

  A very masculine perfume, old-school style, smells good. At first spray, it resembles Armani’s Attitude, though this one is more ambered and darker; you can detect the lavender and coffee. It is quite intense, ideal for cool climates and evening wear, perfect for dressing elegantly. I believe it suits men from the age of 40 upwards. My rating: 6.5.

  Mont Blanc Exceptionnel: Already discontinued, but it is a scent of modern elegance, rich and warm, with a juicy, fine amber. The freshness blends perfectly with the woods and coffee, giving it an aromatic character that is wearable and cosy for any occasion. It is light but noticeable. I find it intimate, for enjoying up close; a very beautiful fragrance. You can still find it, but you will certainly pay a high price. Scent: 9.0. Projection: moderate to low. Longevity: up to 6 hours max. Recommended.

  For me, this is the best of the Mont Blanc range; it doesn’t even come close to the Explorer or the Legend. Exceptionnel overflows with elegance and class. Does it have any flaws? Yes, one serious one: poor longevity. If we are generous with the sprays, it lasts about 5–6 hours. If only it projected more and lasted longer… 🙁
