The fragrance is excellent; it’s the classic John Varvatos and manages to create a little-known, very masculine and deep scent. Overall it’s well-constructed, but its longevity is a bit lacking.

  • I absolutely love it, but it seems girls just don’t notice it at all and it leaves no trail.

  • It’s a fragrance to enjoy on your own. It smells fantastic but has almost no projection, staying close to the skin and lasting about four or five hours on me. That’s why it’s ideal for the office without annoying anyone. Better suited for winter or autumn.

  • A fragrance to enjoy in solitude. It smells wonderful but projects very little, only at skin level, and lasts about four or five hours on my skin. That’s why it’s ideal for the office without annoying anyone. Better for winter or autumn.

  • ManiacoFragantico25

Honestly, it smells very sweet, almost too sweet, with a dark edge that can be a bit overwhelming. It’s not fresh at all, so if you’re looking for something airy, this isn’t for you.

To be honest, it smells very sweet, almost too much, with a dark edge that can be a bit overwhelming. It’s not fresh at all, so if you’re looking for something airy, this isn’t for you.

  • Hamlet0051

Smells quite good. Similar to ‘The One’ by Dolce Gabbana. But there’s a drawback…, its longevity. It disappears after five hours, even though I tend to apply quite a bit.

  • ShiseidoTactics

I gave it several chances and finally fell for it (and generally for the whole Varvatos family). I admit it has similarities to my hated ‘The One’ by D&G, but I consider this Varvatos to show exactly that more masculine, energising, or vigorous side that Dolce lacks. It’s definitely on my future shopping list.

Good scent, but poor projection and longevity, at least in my case. A bit more intense and it would be perfect.

  • pedjalazaro

I like it. It’s a fruity leather with just the right touch of dryness and darkness to avoid being cloying. The dry down is slightly woody. It lacks a bit of performance. It’s a good fragrance for evening wear that, being unobtrusive, doesn’t clash in the office. For autumn and winter, more for night than day. Moderate longevity and a soft sillage.

I like it. It’s a fruity leather with just the right touch of dryness and darkness so it’s not too cloying. The finish is slightly woody. It suffers a bit from performance. A good fragrance for the evening that, being non-intrusive, doesn’t clash in the office. For autumn and winter, more for the night than for the day. Moderate longevity, soft trail.

  • Plum is the most prominent note in a totally masculine fragrance that I liked but didn’t fully convince me due to its short duration on the skin.

  • A pleasant fruity perfume with subtle leather notes in the base, barely noticeable. Softly sweet, nothing cloying. A friendly scent you can buy blind without worry. Its only drawback is the lack of power, trail, and longevity.

  • A pleasant fruity perfume with subtle leather notes in the base, not very noticeable. Softly sweet, nothing cloying. A friendly scent that can be bought blind without issues. Its main flaw is the lack of potency, trail, and longevity.

  • I bought it three days ago at a TJ Maxx in NYC. It was an offer I spotted out of the corner of my eye at the perfume stand. The travel set, with the 125ml bottle, a portable spritzer of about 17ml, and a sample of Artisan, all in a very obvious case from the brand. I loved the peculiar opening and dry-down scent: fruity at first with a spark, very distinctive and pleasant notes. Then, (the transition and duration are brief), a lovely dry-down appears, masculine, nocturnal, but close to the skin. On me, four sprays in fresh weather last about 2-3 hours with little projection, but the scent is so rich it’s worth it. Three women could smell it at a dinner and were delighted, which speaks well of this olfactory potion. Personally, without being an expert in this field, I consider it a good, pleasant, and personal scent, distinct.

  • A pleasant surprise. Sometimes you’re let down by famous fragrances that don’t suit you, and other times it’s the opposite. I tried two of John Varvatos yesterday at 2 pm on my inner arm, this one and Vintage. At 7 pm I applied Sauvage EDT from a sample. By night, Vintage was barely detectable, Sauvage was still there but fading, while the John Varvatos one stood out the most. It’s been 24 hours and I can still smell it on my skin, though I have to press my nose close. Every perfume meets every skin differently, which is why you always have to test.

  • Pleasant surprise, as sometimes famous fragrances don’t quite work and other times the opposite happens. I tested two of John Varvatos yesterday at 2 pm on my inner arm, this one and Vintage, then at 7 pm I sprayed Sauvage EDT from a sample. By night, Vintage was barely noticeable, Sauvage was there but had faded, while John Varvatos was the one that stayed with me most. It’s been 24 hours and I can still detect it on my skin, though I have to press my nose right up to it. Every perfume is a different world with every skin, which is why you always have to test.

  • Memoquique

Excellent perfume, just like all the JVs. I’d say that if they had better sillage and longevity… if they did, they would be the perfect perfumes.

  • Gentil vagabond

Fruity leather with a successful balance, what a great scent. The usual, it doesn’t last long for me…snifff.

  • After seeing this fragrance for a long time, always finding it in my trips to the USA at ROSS or Marshalls, it never caught my attention until now. I bought a decant at a good price and I can say it’s good. I detect that tamarind note over a sweet, very wearable leather base. It has sweet hints from the amber and caramel, but it’s nothing intrusive. The downside is that it doesn’t project much, but it clings to the skin for several hours. The batch I have is from 2014 and perhaps that’s why it lasts longer than others comment. It was a pleasant surprise and it doesn’t seem like any other. Ideal for casual outings or the office, in mild to warm climates.

  • For me it would be a classic if it lasted longer and had more sillage and projection, because it smells wonderful. The downside is that it doesn’t last long and the sillage is almost just for you or if someone gets very close. A pity, but when I wear it I love it. I pull the trigger to make it last a bit longer.

  • A really good aroma that is let down by poor performance. A pity because it’s not ‘just another one’.

  • bmendozamx

A very soft and sweet leather, super wearable. It projects a leather scent, but on the skin it leaves a sweet trail.

  • peperinafragancia

A classic, pleasant masculine aroma, somewhere between CK Eternity and PDM Sedley. Herbal, musky and woody. You can tell it’s good quality.

  • John Varvatos has created a clean, distinctive leather with a soft, sweet touch that makes it super versatile. The best part is its balance: subtle and sophisticated without losing character. It works in any setting, day or night. Contrary to what I’ve read, in my case it lasts all day, with a moderate trail that projects without being invasive but is certainly noticeable.

  • John Varvatos has created a clean, distinctive leather with a soft, sweet touch that makes it incredibly versatile. The best thing is its balance: subtle and sophisticated without losing character. It’s worn comfortably in many settings and climates; its soft sweetness makes it perfect for day and night. Unlike other reviews, in my experience it lasts most of the day, with excellent longevity and a moderate sillage that projects a few metres without being invasive but certainly noticeable.

  • I’ve been wearing this fragrance for years; it’s one of the best and most authentic for winter. It all comes down to personal taste and style of dress.

  • Bloody hell, dates and leather. What more could you want? You can’t turn into a dromedary, so you buy John Varvatos and there you are. Just kidding. It’s a real treat, one of those you buy blind, with a good price and it’s often on offer. His companion Vintage would also be a no-brainer (and I have it).

What a pity that in Chile they only stock the men’s version of this fragrance; it feels unfair how some brands are so sexist, like Lancôme, who after releasing incredible scents for men such as Miracle and Hypnose pour Homme, discontinued them and now only sell them in women’s exclusive franchises, whereas Ermenegildo Zegna never launched a female edition and John Varvatos follows the same path.
