Descripción

Joykush by Maiora Parfum is an olfactory creation from 2025, designed for men and women. This new fragrance, signed by perfumer Antonio Gigli, presents itself as a versatile composition that challenges traditional categories. Its pyramidal structure begins with an explosion of vibrant and exotic top notes: rhubarb, cannabis, black pepper, pink pepper, grapefruit, statice, mandarin, saffron, peony, lemon, basil, honey, and plum. The heart of the composition reveals a more floral and spicy facet, where cannabis dialogues with peach blossom, violet leaves, patchouli, lavender, geranium, cardamom, saffron, jasmine, and cloves. Finally, the base anchors the fragrance with a warm and woody accord composed of sandalwood, cedar, oakmoss, and a subtle return of lemon.

I’ve been hunting for years for a perfume that captures the authentic scent of kush, the herb, or the joint, and Joykush doesn’t attempt to copy it literally. Instead, it interprets it. It’s not pure realism; it’s construction. A striking, expertly orchestrated blend of fleeting citrus, bitter and mossy greens, understated white flowers, cold spices, and dark woods. Everything has character and makes no concessions. For me, it rests on three chords that function like a galactic symphony, capable of taking you on a cold, nocturnal walk down streets near Times Square. The opening is dominated by a bitter, herbaceous green where rhubarb is key: it smells of plant stalk, something gelatinous, acidic, and slightly rough. It adds texture, character, and that clear sense of ‘herb’ without falling into the obvious. A cold, elegant, and well-measured sting is added thanks to cardamom. It doesn’t overwhelm but sharpens the ensemble, giving it tension and preventing the green from becoming flat. In the heart, a cold, almost ghostly lavender appears, in a ‘barbershop foam’ style, yet without seeking the spotlight. It’s there to order and cleanse the air. Crucially, the bitter green doesn’t disappear; it remains constant from the first spray to the dry down. Honey is mentioned, and yes, it’s there. It’s a shy background sweetness that some will recognise if they’ve ever ‘honeyed the tip’ of a joint. It works not just olfactorily but awakens concrete memories: long nights, parties, aimless laughter, and excesses without reflection. This sweetness fades gradually, absorbed by dark woods that give the dry down a more serious, elegant, and less playful tone. The perfume matures, becoming introspective, yet never loses the green DNA that defines it. Joykush ends up being this: a warm joint in the midst of a cold night, an intense evening of uncertain steps, stories that go nowhere, and friendships that dissipate at the same rate as the smoke’s effects. A perfume with character, memory, and a very clear identity.
