  Ambroid scents, balsams, woods and resins tend to evoke mysterious and erotic sensations in both men and women. I absolutely love warm amber aromas – those oriental varieties with a strong amber component blended with cinnamon, patchouli, vanilla or spices that release a sensual, enveloping feeling of heat. L’Eau d’Ambre by L’Artisan Parfumeur took my fancy, although it lacks a powerful trail (after a few hours it clings to the skin, with bursts that rise up and remind you it’s there). That’s more than compensated for by a four-to-five-hour longevity and an exquisite scent, in my opinion. It might seem dated due to its quite resinous, powdery and dusty character, but that soft balsamic base works brilliantly on the skin, perfect for a cold winter’s night with someone special. An irresistible invitation to touch.
