About Manly
Manly by Areej Le Doré: A Woody Oriental with Distinctive Character
Manly is a scent that lives up to its bold name. Released in 2021 by the niche house Areej Le Doré, this woody oriental is designed for both men and women. It was crafted by the brand's founder, Russian Adam, together with perfumer Aton Gerasimov.
From the very first spritz, Manly presents a complex and daring personality. It opens with a burst of oakmoss, patchouli and sweet notes, setting the stage for an evolving journey through tobacco, spices and deep resins.
At its heart, Manly weaves tobacco and cashmeran with cinnamon, nutmeg, tonka bean and saffron. This blend produces a warm, slightly spicy and comforting core that feels both classic and modern. The saffron lends a leathery facet, while the tonka bean contributes a gentle sweetness.
The base is where Manly truly excels. Leather, Indian oud, vanilla and sandalwood create a solid, almost smoky foundation. The oud is smooth and not overly animalic, while the leather adds a tactile, rugged edge. Vanilla and sandalwood soften the composition, leaving a creamy trail that clings to the skin.
The accords of this fragrance are predominantly woody, leathery and mossy, with sweet, tobacco and earthy undertones. A distinct powdery, talc-like facet also emerges, evoking a classic barbershop vibe. This makes Manly feel both retro and contemporary in equal measure.
With a rating of 4.25 out of 5 from 187 reviews, Manly has earned praise within the niche community. It is not a subtle perfume; it commands attention and is best worn in cooler weather, during evenings or on special occasions. Its sillage is moderate to strong, and its longevity is remarkable.
Manly stands as a testament to Areej Le Doré's dedication to quality and creativity. It is a fragrance for those who appreciate complex, characterful compositions that unfold beautifully on the skin.
Manly appeals to fragrance enthusiasts who love bold woody orientals with a vintage twist. It suits both men and women who prefer scents with presence and depth.
Manly is a robust and elegant creation, a must-try for aficionados of deep, resinous orientals. It strikes a balance between tradition and innovation, delivering a memorable olfactory experience.

Talking about Areej le Dore is to talk about a very special house, one described as ultra-niche. But talking about Manly is to talk about one of Areej’s most special fragrances for various reasons: the creation of the formula, the increase in batch units and other matters. Manly opens with a potent fragrance, with aggressive notes such as oud, castoreum and a very soft leather. It also opens smoky, and that smokiness gradually softens while an alcoholic sensation gains ground. This aggressiveness fades, evolving towards greener notes such as patchouli, which together with the resins makes a highly addictive combination. In the drydown we also find the tobacco and vanilla combo; the vanilla becomes more prominent in the final stages, accompanied by woody sensations. Manly means masculine, and we can already see that it is a blend closely associated with masculine perfumery. Very balanced and elegant. In my opinion, it is a brilliant perfume that I enjoy very much.
