Musk Therapy by Initio Parfums Privés is a woody floral musk fragrance, created for men and women. Launched in 2021, this composition was designed by perfumer Olivier Cresp. The top notes feature Calabrian bergamot, cardamom, and Sicilian lemon, giving way to a heart of sambac jasmine, Bulgarian rose, and cloves. The base is composed of white musk, sandalwood, patchouli, and vetiver, rounding off the olfactory pyramid with a touch of ambergris.

It’s a burst of musk accompanied initially by blackcurrants. I own several perfumes with blackcurrant and I must say they don’t always manage to “tame” such a prominent note, unless diluted heavily to make it part of a whole; other experiments end up flat and almost childish due to being so basic. Here, although the blackcurrant is at the limit of what I can take, it has a counterpoint in the bergamot and mandarin which, far from sweetening, give sparkling nuances that moderate the unruly first note. Over time, the sandalwood takes over, adding warmth, a touch of silkiness, and cleanliness to a musk that has been present all along. It survived several hours on the skin and all night under the duvet, a trial by fire that allows me to categorise it as having considerable longevity. I consider it unisex, and on a woman’s skin it must be irresistible.

White light and inner peace, that’s what I felt upon trying it. ‘Musk Therapy’ starts with a fruity top note of very acidic blackcurrant and lemon. Then comes a light floral touch and a soft musk that is comforting. The musk is what stands out most, and thank goodness it doesn’t smell dirty or animalic, which I love. I’m surprised there’s nothing milky listed, but it gives me that sensation. The dry down is pure creamy musk thanks to the sandalwood. It gives me the same vibe as Bal D’Afrique but much more musky and fluffy. Perhaps it’s like a lemon lotion. They compare it to Signature by Montblanc, I haven’t tried it so I won’t say anything, but that one seems very sweet and vanilla-like. It’s soft, delicate, clean, bright, and warm. It brings calm and peace. Unisex, leaning feminine. Sillage and longevity are moderate. I’ll keep the sample for summer, hoping it doesn’t evaporate; I think that’s its perfect climate. Of the Initio scents I’ve tried so far, I’m sticking with ‘Absolute Aphrodisiac’.

This perfume is pure cleanliness: innocent, unobtrusive, and on sunny days it leaves you feeling clean and classy. It doesn’t seek attention as its projection is low, yet it lingers all day. Ideal for breakfasts with friends in spring, going to work, or those trips to the supermarket or church. 😛

At first I didn’t like it, it smelled like laundry detergent, but as I only had 5ml I had to find an occasion to use it. There is a Downy that smells almost exactly like this perfume and that was disappointing for me, especially with all the hype surrounding it (not to mention its crazy price). But today, heading back to the airport, I wanted to wear something light, non-invasive, that would make me smell better than if I had nothing on. I wore the alcohol-free J’Adore perfume d’eau (the white one) and then sprayed Musk Therapy on top. It smells absolutely celestial, literally like a morning angel. It has a moderate sillage (respectful of others) and an impressive longevity. And the best of all is that it no longer smells like laundry or Downy, but rather a white paradise. I recommend Musk Therapy for layering; it’s expensive, but mixed with certain perfumes it really makes a wonder.

I didn’t like this perfume at first; it smelled like laundry to me, but as I had 5 ml, I had to find a reason to use it. There is a Downy that smells almost exactly like this perfume, and that was disappointing for me, especially with all the hype it has (without mentioning its astronomical price). But, today when I returned to the airport, I wanted to put on a light, non-invasive perfume that would make me smell better than if I had nothing. I put on the alcohol-free J’Adore perfume d’eau (the white one) and then sprayed Musk Therapy on top… It smells heavenly, literally like a morning angel. • I expected much less from this perfume than what I found; I came prepared for a translucent, ethereal white musk with hints of white floral like Omnia Cristaline by Bvlgari or Musc Essence by Narciso Rodríguez, but I was wrong. It is neither an animalic musk, nor dark, and even less so, although it approaches (but very little) that Incisive Musk of Musky Garden by Mancera. Musk Therapy, like all Initio fragrances I have tried so far, seems enormously synthetic to me (this is not necessarily bad as I often point out); this musk is like a white mist that encompasses everything and doesn’t let you see beyond the distance of your hands, a nebula that absorbs everything and has lactonic facets, something fruity of blackcurrants, a note that normally doesn’t make me feel comfortable in female perfumes (more than half of my collection are them); there is something fruity more there that feels very medicinal and with a soft sweet aftertaste like sugary dusty residues from a packet of alteas; I detect the floral notes after several hours when this composition calms down a bit, but it still maintains that medicinal smell, yes, very white like milk of magnesia and fabric softener. I have mixed feelings in this case; Side Effects I liked quite a bit despite the same happening to me, of not finding what I expected due to its notes; Oud for Greatness is pleasant and has more ‘mass appeal’ (or at least, more of my olfactive profile) but with this one I am undecided; it is not a fragrance I would recommend to many people; however, its performance on my skin is quite notable, at least good projection for the first hour and a half and longevity on skin of more than 6 hours. As I always say, try on skin and draw your own conclusions.

Clean white musk, fluffy, slightly sweet, like clean skin, sexy, warm, a bit animalic, provocative, attractive… A wonderful, super versatile fragrance, easy to use in any occasion and season and easy to like. It’s not a complex scent; I think it’s like smelling the sky full of white clouds. I consider it perfect to be a signature perfume. It changes a lot on skin; on paper it didn’t say much to me but I fell in love with it myself and with my partner after wearing it. I’ve received many compliments with it. Very good quality, lasts about 12 hours on skin with medium sillage, which I perceive in bursts. I love it!! It reminds me so much of the perfume I used most in my adolescence which was discontinued, with MT being a bit more adult and less fruity but with the same DNA: Peach Blossom by Tommy Hilfiger.

  • Indeed, it smells clean. It has the type of musk found in Valaya and at the same time resembles Signature by Montblanc but without the Ylang Ylang (which I hate) or the Benzoin. I think it is a better blend than Signature, much less brash. It is pretty, but I don’t know if I would invest that in a ‘freshy’ – it’s not my favourite olfactive profile.

  • Dama Incognita

I am testing a sample that was given to me with the purchase of another perfume. I am not a fan of scents with a ‘clean’ smell and even less so of perfumes where the protagonist is musk; however, I was attracted by the fact that it says ‘Therapy’ and that the sample packaging says ‘it is a path to inner peace’, so I wore it late, almost to go to sleep. It is very soft and relaxing, a sweet musk from the fruits which creates a harmonious and pleasant scent. I probably won’t buy it, as musk by itself is not one of my favourites and although I liked it, it is too simple for me, but it could be to the liking of those who seek soft scents or to layer with another fragrance.

  • Olga Kutz

I am in the middle of winter in the southern hemisphere, and knowing that it is not the most suitable time to discover Musk Therapy, I went for a 10 ml decant, because I simply couldn’t get it out of my head. I am a musk person; I love it in many of its unpleasant facets and, of course, in the clean soapy and fluffy ones. At first, on skin, the bergamot and blackcurrant left me indifferent, just as has been said elsewhere; the laundry softener trail was blatant. And with that I stayed, until hours passed and, together with the heat of the skin, the musk bubble began to grow, and I discovered something… it is a scent that puts me in a good mood. And I admit it impacted me. It is neither the most surprising, nor elegant, nor seductive, nor anything of the sort, but I feel ultra comfortable within this aroma. Not even great creations of the classic ‘clean scent’ have managed this, so I slept with it, walked with it, worked with it, and went to buy its bottle. I surrender to the sense of well-being of this fragrance, and although it repeats itself, it is remarkably surprising to me that an aroma so minimalist and almost like ‘laundry’ can achieve this. As an example, I use Pure Musc by NR (masterpiece) and Signature by Montblanc (ultra comforting), and yet Musk Therapy seems futuristic, almost holistic and loving to me, thanks INITIO for assaulting my finances with this wonder.

  • It is a clean and white aroma but drifts towards being slightly sweet; it is precisely this sweet touch that, in my opinion, makes it more feminine, although a man could wear it perfectly. The same thing happens to this perfume as with the original Eight & Bob, which sweetens more as it dries and, with very high temperatures, becomes a bit saturated although without exaggeration. Very attenuated citrus, white flowers, creaminess and sweetness, with a bitter touch that transforms that whiteness into a light grey. It smells good, pity that sweet scents are not my preference and perhaps for that reason I won’t buy the bottle. It appears to last quite a while and leaves a trail. Versatile, suitable for any occasion and all year round with the exception of extreme temperatures, especially high ones.

  • It smells clean, so clean that it literally smells like soap. I’m not disgusted by it; despite not being a fan of this type of scent, I’m enjoying the decant, but I wouldn’t spend what it costs just to smell like soap. I must say, it lasts and projects much more than other perfumes of this type, if that is what you are looking for.

  • What beautiful perfumes Initio makes… and how different this one is from the others I’ve tried from the brand. It opens with a vibrant, acidic citrus-fruit top note, already blended with musk. As it dries down, that fruity aspect recedes, revealing white floral touches and, above all, sandalwood, turning into a slightly sweeter and creamier composition, yet where the protagonist remains the sheer abundance of white musk, never losing that soapy cleanliness. It has nothing to do with the dirtier, animalic musk found in other Initio creations, such as Absolute Aphrodisiac. This is white, simple, clean, utterly clean… and for me, there is nothing particularly sensual or attractive about this perfume. I see it more as harmless, a daily wear scent. Unisex. Totally daytime and ideal for spring/summer. Longevity on skin is around 10-12 hours with quite a strong projection and sillage for at least the first four hours. The truth is, I liked it, but I won’t be buying it as it’s not the kind of aroma I enjoy most. Besides, I believe there are similar and more affordable options on the market nowadays. If I were to buy a musk perfume soon, it would probably be The Musc The Essential by Parfums.

  • Perfumiris

It is the mood I am in right now in my life, perfect, a clean scent, fluffy clouds, slightly sweet; I love it and wear it every chance I get to spritz it on at the CI. I’m not sure if I would buy the bottle for the price, but I already have WT&B by MD and it gives me the same thing, so I doubt it. Curiously, I wore Dior Gris in the other hand at the same time and they seem to be very similar soapy scents, although MT is sweeter. On the other hand, it doesn’t remind me of Signature by Montblanc as people say; that one is more energising citrus and this is delicate and relaxing. Nothing to do with each other.

  • Ferchong95

I love blackcurrants, although here the musk predominates. It smells neat, impeccable and cosy. A luxurious SPA feeling. A lovely very clean girl perfume! Although it wouldn’t be among my first INITIO purchases.

  • I didn’t know how little I could handle musk until I tried this. I can’t stand it directly; that touch seems grating and strident to me, I perceive nothing else and it causes me discomfort. That said, it lasts, it lasts, no one can get it off the skin.

  • anapolitana26

To me, it’s a bride’s perfume, like those by Narciso Rodríguez. As other reviews say, that sweet touch makes it more feminine. It smells clean, like soap (at the opening it reminds me of the shower gel). I imagine myself with a bouquet of pink roses, daisies and olive branches, with a romantic lace dress and puffed sleeves. The perfect complement for such a happy day.

  • Everyone wants to have it. It would be wrong to call it feminine because it is fully unisex and expresses itself differently on male and female skin. On male skin, the fruity, citrusy, green and woody notes stand out alongside the musk. On female skin, the musk is the protagonist with a sweet fruity and floral touch that overlays the rest. Yes, it’s a musky perfume with adequate projection and about 8 hours of longevity. It’s not the most surprising, elegant or ultra-sexy. It’s for feeling comfortable with oneself, like a rainy day at home. It’s not Initio’s bratty child. You can wear it all year except in extreme heat. Perfect for work, especially in an office, healthcare, or driving. The secret is that you must like musk. Make your judgement. As always, test on skin before buying niche and don’t trust the blotter alone.

  • I think it’s my nose, but it doesn’t seem special to me at all. I saw it on social media as a great perfume and went to the store with all the eagerness, but I was hugely disappointed when I smelled it. I can’t see what justifies the price apart from the longevity.

  • It smells like cleanliness, like straight out of the shower. You smell it all the time and if it disappears, you search for its scent; it’s addictive and very flattering. I discovered it with decants and ended up buying my third bottle. At home, my daughters and I use it; the house smells like Musk Therapy. Highly recommended.

  • I’m obsessed from the opening, but the madness is in the dry-down. I tested it on my hand in the afternoon: delicious, clean, creamy, citrusy but pleasant, with a fruity sweet point, almost edible. But the following night and early morning, while I was sleeping, the perfume went wild: waves of an incredibly rich smell, like smelling paradise. It’s an extremely rich and potent musk; that’s all I can say.

  • I had high expectations and was surprised when I smelled it on blotter: soft, creamy output with a certain sweetness. But on skin, it seemed very intense; I am sensitive and look for medium-low projection and an elegant dry-down. Contrary to what I read, I think it projects a lot at first, so I applied it to my shoulders to avoid being overwhelmed. The dry-down smells like creamy soap, with a milky touch. If you are sensitive, ask for a decant first. If you like musk, try it, it’s different and interesting. Update: I’ve worn it for a week and it’s unique, going beyond its name. My nose is getting used to it. The dry-down and evolution are sublime: an innocent, tender sweetness mixed with a spotless cleanliness. Also, it does magic when layering with fruity perfumes, like Cassili by PDM or Ambrette 9 by Le Labo; I used the latter to sleep in and it was the most pleasant finish, plus it prolonged the longevity of Ambrette 9, which is usually short. I highly recommend it; it’s not just any musk.

  • samucel87

Wearing this is pure therapy. Few things make me feel as good as applying it. I think that’s the magic: it has a calming and oxygenating power that seems common among all of us who use it. Initio makes us fall in love with the scent again and how it affects the limbic system. To me, it smells like a soft citrus cream with a fresh white floral touch, light and almost ethereal. What sets it apart from being pasty is the musk, which turns it into something totally clean. It’s perfect, very unisex and ideal for everyday wear, especially in warm areas. It’s not overwhelming or tiring. Its development is timid, nothing strident, but with Musk Therapy it’s impossible to go unnoticed. You’ll be loved so much. The only downside: I’d like it to last a bit longer, as its projection and longevity are short. In summary: 100% unisex, versatile for any climate though it shines more in heat, formal or informal. Scent: 9.5, Longevity: 7, Sillage: 6. Price: 280 euros for 90ml, watch out as there’s already a kidney-shaped bottle in circulation. It’s my fourth Initio and I don’t think I’ll stop until I have them all. I’m addicted.

  • It’s a super creamy musk, zero sharpness, with a tiny sweet touch that makes it intoxicating without losing elegance or freshness. Imagine a dense body wash or a body cream; that’s the texture. On top, a fresh, subtle citrus air, like a lemon sorbet, so delicious! But it doesn’t stop there; it has depth thanks to the sandalwood and flowers that round it off. In the end, it’s a clean, fresh yet creamy perfume, with a woody and floral touch that gives it density. It’s divine and lasts all summer.

  • I agree that this perfume is therapy in the sense of massages or the type of therapy you get at a spa. To me, it smells exactly like that, like a spa. It transports me to thermal baths with a clean scent. Perfectly unisex. It lasts well on the skin, although it doesn’t project much or leave a trail (at least in my case). I think it’s perfect for personal enjoyment or even for sleeping. That said, in my opinion, the price is excessive.

  • Gustanadamas

A unique and clean everyday fragrance. Unlike other perfumes known for being clean, such as Y EDP or Acqua di Giò, it’s not sharp; instead, it’s a creamy, relaxing clean scent that fits all casual day-to-day situations. It’s pricey for an everyday fragrance, but if you can afford it, it’s worth it for both men and women, as it is remarkably unisex.

  • I wanted to love it, but there’s something bitter about it. It’s elegant, yet there’s something there that ultimately doesn’t quite fit. It smells warm, elegant, and clean… but then suddenly, a bitter note emerges.

  • I recommend testing on skin before buying. It smells phenomenal on blotter, a 9 or nearly a 10, but on my skin it loses that clean, fresh character and becomes noticeably more animalic and pure musk, losing the citrusy, clean magic it possesses.

  • Extremely expensive for the kind of daily use I would give it. A lovely everyday perfume that reminded me of the scent of a high-end, minimalist boutique. It’s a fresh and clean aroma. I agree it may recall Montblanc Signature, but without its creaminess, sweetness, and intensity. It’s a nice musk, but one I don’t need. I liked it, but it doesn’t enchant me, and at that price point, it would need to impress me significantly to decide on purchasing.

  • It’s elegant and clean, but not for me. Although it’s unisex, it’s not a blind buy because on my skin it develops into a neat yet animalic scent that doesn’t convince me. It has excellent longevity, lasting from one day to the next on the skin. The projection is moderate. The bottle is gorgeous and the quality is superb, but considering the price and how it sits on my skin, it’s not worth it. I advise testing before purchasing.

  • I couldn’t be more in love with this perfume; my fiancé gave it to me as a birthday present, and I was utterly hypnotised. To me, it’s a clean, creamy, and elegant fragrance that evokes comfort and relaxation, boosting my mood every time I wear it. It’s my signature scent, lasting all day on the skin and lingering on clothes for days afterwards.

  • To me, this is a slightly feminine scent, especially in the dry-down. At first, I detect a powdery note that fascinates me, before shifting to suede and sandalwood tones reminiscent of Creed’s Millesime Imperial and Armaf’s Molestone. It has a strong sillage that can become overwhelming, particularly in warm or crowded places. It performs well but requires knowing when to wear it; I’d recommend it for evenings or cooler settings. Although I adore it, I don’t suggest buying it without testing it first. 100% recommended 🕉️🕉️🕉️

  • BeatrizBlackwood

A stunning line; the entire collection smells like an expensive spa, a luxury hotel, and a high-end resort, and this Musk Therapy is a beauty. The only thing holding me back is the price, but otherwise, it’s perfect.

  • I’m not sure what makes this perfume successful. It feels like it has nothing special about it and is far too soft. While it does improve as it dries down, it still leaves me unimpressed. I had the same reaction with Gypsy Water… Given its reputation, I had high expectations, but this has been a total letdown.
