Rather than staying bright, the composition turns gradually floral, aromatic and then mellow, balsamic and woody. The effect is generous yet ordered, with each stage clearly defined.
Top notes of cardamom, bergamot, lime, Sichuan pepper, elemi and incense open the scent. Lime and bergamot bring lift, cardamom and Sichuan pepper bring bite, and incense lends an early whisper of smoke.
At the heart, patchouli, rose, orange blossom, cumin, geranium, davana, saffron, anise and coriander take over. The florals round the edges, while cumin, saffron, anise and coriander keep a dry, herbal tension.
The drydown combines benzoin, labdanum, amber, ambergris, opoponax, vanilla, birch, musk and oud wood. Sweet balsams, soft vanilla and musk settle over birch and oud, which contribute a drier, faintly smoky woodiness.
The broader character is amber and aromatic, citrusy and rosy, moving from fresh spice to warm spice on a musky, woody base. It feels most at home after dark and in colder months, for those drawn to full-bodied orientals.
