I bought Nahual after seeing a review on YouTube and it was a success. Bear in mind, although some fragrances from the brand are easier to like, it’s an independent niche house with bold proposals, just like this one. Nahual opens with strong civet and acidic green lemon; I like it because it moves away from traditional citrus (bergamot, lime, orange) to feature one so distinctly Mexican. As it dries down, the animalic aspect persists alongside oud, woods, and anise, all balanced for an entertaining evolution. Longevity is good (noticeable on clothes and skin the next day) and projection is moderate to potent without being overpowering. It’s the most animalic in my collection (more than Cuoium), yet it’s not unwearable; if you know how to handle it, it’s elegant and interesting. It follows the path of Hyrax by Zoologist (interpret with discretion, but the handling of animalic notes is similar). Coyotl is worth it and proves that there is excellent-level independent perfumery in Mexico.
I jumped into Nahual solely because of a YouTube video, and it was a total hit. Of course, not every fragrance from the brand suits every taste, but as an independent niche house, their proposals are bold and unconventional. Nahual is a perfect example: it opens with a potent civet and sharp green lemon. I love that lemon because it steers clear of classic citrus notes like bergamot or orange, offering a distinctly Mexican citrus twist. As it dries down, the animalic facet remains, but the oud, woody notes, and anise become apparent; all of this balances the scent and makes its evolution genuinely fun. The longevity is excellent (I can still detect it on my clothes and skin the next day), and the projection ranges from moderate to powerful without being intrusive. It is the most animalic fragrance I own (for me, it’s stronger than Cuoium), yet I don’t view it as difficult to wear; on the contrary, if you know how to handle it, it is incredibly elegant and interesting. If you need a reference, it follows a similar path to Zoologist’s Hyrax (I’m not saying they are identical, but they handle animalic notes in a comparable way, so if you like or dislike one, you’ll likely feel the same about the other). Coyotl is definitely worth exploring and proves that Mexico boasts independent perfumery of exceptional quality.

If you’re looking for something mainstream that’ll fill you with compliments and have you walking around smelling like a bakery, look elsewhere. It’s also not for those who want strong herbal, foul-smelling animalic, or heavy leather notes. But if you’re seeking the perfect balance of all that, try this wonder. The name ‘Nahual’ suits it perfectly. I can picture it like this: a man, after a meeting, wearing a herbal fragrance, then heading away from the city towards a forest, where amidst the solitude he brings the legend of the mythical NAHUAL to life. He begins to transform into a beast, getting dirty with earth, moss, dampness, woods, and his animalic stench blends with the previous scent, creating a balanced and delicious aroma. This will be my signature. 🔥🔥 Projection 1-1.5h, longevity +7h.

It’s also not for those who want strong herbal, foul animalic, or heavy leather scents. But if you seek the perfect balance of these notes, try this masterpiece: it fits the name ‘Nahual’ perfectly. I can picture a man who, after a meeting, wears a herbal fragrance, retreats from the city into a forest, and amidst the solitude, brings the legend of the mythical NAHUAL to life. He begins to transform into a beast, getting covered in earth, moss, dampness, and woods; this mixture combines with his underlying animalic scent to create a balanced and delicious aroma. Perfect for my signature scent. 🔥🔥 1-1.5 hours of projection, over 7 hours of longevity.
