Neroli Portofino Forte is Tom Ford’s response to criticisms of the original versions for their mediocre trail and soapy smell. It is stronger, deeper, more intense, and free of soap, though the price seems unaffordable even for fans. If you dreamed of a version twice as long-lasting, this is your reality. Nevertheless, experts do not consider it among the brand’s best, but rather its mass-market commercial side for those who just want citrus. By the way, Atelier Cologne offers better citrus alternatives at a lower price.
Despite the ‘Forte’ label, it remains the same childish cologne from before. Its trail and longevity last only a breath.
Very little trail and poor longevity. The soapy note gives it an unsettling baby-like air: the most expensive Nenuco cologne out there. Claiming to be ‘Forte’, it lasts a mere breath; after five hours, I detect nothing at a distance, only a faint scent right up against the skin.
Tom Ford: Neroli Portofino doesn’t cut it; let’s create an improved version. Yes, ‘Neroli Portofino Forte’: the same thing but with a touch of wood and powdery citrus that nobody will notice. And let’s sell it for much more! That’s how I imagine the brainstorming for this launch.
Neroli Portofino Forte is the evolution of the original: if the first is sparkling and luminous, the Forte is the cologne a father or grandfather would wear, deeper and more welcoming, shifting from yellow to dark orange. It shares the same base but is far more long-lasting and elegant; the leather doesn’t smell of leather but of texture. The dry-down has a soapy touch that makes it smell clean. There’s a slight sweetness, perhaps an undisclosed amber that adds longevity. Performance is good (5/6 hours) and the scent is beautiful, albeit familiar.
I was gifted this and it reminded me of my friend’s baby cologne and the classic ‘grandpa’ scents. I didn’t fall in love with it, but for hot days, it provides a nice freshness. Over time, I got used to it, and the ‘gentleman’s cologne’ side doesn’t bother me as much.
Tom Ford’s Neroli Portofino is a tribute to coastal elegance that captures the Mediterranean light with mastery. A gem from the Private Blend collection, it distils the freshness of neroli, evoking that sea breeze from Portofino. It opens with sparkling citrus notes of lemon and bergamot, like a sunrise over the water. As it settles, jasmine and amber add depth, reminiscent of a high-end lemon tart. Its longevity is exceptional and its projection is powerful yet elegant, filling the room without overwhelming. It’s for those seeking discreet luxury and effortless sophistication, turning every day into a work of art.
