It’s a complex fragrance for untrained noses. On first sniff, it smells like fresh mint but isn’t quite that, and the green, earthy notes feel more opaque—think olive green, though not as dark as the Sukimuki in colour. This is my first encounter with these notes at full strength. I agree it has a liquor-like aroma, that strong alcoholic opening that soon yields to dark, earthy nuances. I would have preferred it to be brighter, greener and fresher to make it more versatile; perhaps the 15 was my option, but I was seeking something more elegant, like a Carlo Corinto Classic. It can seem very mature, almost like a dad’s cologne, and people are right that it is the most niche in its line. It’s curious; one has to wait for the ideal weather and see if oxidation improves it. For now, I don’t find it heavy or too difficult to wear, but it requires a specific occasion and purpose. It is elegant and seems to reflect a personality, perhaps a masculine one. Edit: I’ve just tried YSL ULTIME and they dry down very similarly, although the Sukimuki is more strident; if you liked ULTIME, this is a great alternative.

I’ve just finished my review of Sukimuki 16. With this one, I had to try it three times to get it right, but yes… it is the best in the men’s line. The combination of bergamot and leather gives a liquor-like touch, quite masculine; for me it is neutral in terms of season, but it suggests evening wear, such as in bars or gatherings with friends. The vetiver and geranium add freshness (I detect patchouli, but it doesn’t quite give a floral feel), without making it ideal for spring/summer, at least on very hot days. I’ve finished my decant of this and ordered the full bottle (along with the 17 for my girlfriend, the 12, 10 and 1 for my mum). Rating: 9.5/10.
