It’s a super special perfume, perfect in cold weather or rain. I wore it at the beach while it was raining with my girlfriend, and the scent is unique and perfect.
A work of art by Calvin Klein… a proven orgasm for the nose.
I bought the 75 ml version almost unconsciously. I soon realised I didn’t like it much; there was a note that didn’t make me feel comfortable. As it cost me money, I finished the bottle, but I wouldn’t repurchase. It’s not the same with traditional Obsession, which I had in a 10 ml mini and adored; another classic of perfumery.
It smells very strong, overly synthetic, and unpleasant, like chocolate with nutmeg, akin to a disinfectant. In fact, in some hospitals I’ve smelled the same thing, just softer. When I wore it in stores, everyone looked at me as if to say: ‘Who put this on that smells so strong?’. Moreover, it gave me a headache, and now I understand why; as Rozz mentions in her review of Lalique’s Encre Noire for men, it seems to contain the chemical ‘ISO SUPER E’, which I absolutely hate.
It smells very strong, super synthetic and annoying, like chocolate with nutmeg or a disinfectant; in fact, in hospitals I’ve noticed that exact scent, just less intense. In shops, when I applied a sample, everyone looked at me as if to say: who on earth put this on that smells so strong? Moreover, it gave me a headache. As Rozz mentions in her review of Encre Noire Lalique for men, it seems to contain ISO E SUPER, a chemical that I absolutely hate.
This flanker of Obsession has nothing to do with the original, which remains an eighties gem. Curiously, at first it reminds me of Kenzo Night, a perfume I no longer own and couldn’t stand. Both share grapefruit and cardamomo in the opening, but here the start isn’t as piercing as in Kenzo. The downside of Kenzo is that that scent bothered me for hours, whereas Obsession shifts quickly to its heart and the resemblance disappears. In my opinion, it’s not as fantastic as the original, but it’s a good version that smells different, and by ‘different’ we all mean different things. Scent 7/10, versatility 7/10, trail 8/10, longevity 7/10.
This flanker of Obsession has nothing to do with the original, a 90s gem. Curiously, the opening reminds me of Kenzo Night, which I discontinued due to intolerance; both share grapefruit and cardamom, but here the start isn’t as sharp. While Kenzo keeps that repugnant scent for hours, Obsession shifts sooner in the heart and loses the similarity. In my view, it’s not as fantastic as the original, but it’s a good version, smells different, and is worth it. Scent 7/10, versatility 7/10, trail 8/10, longevity 7/10.
The opening is fruity, not acidic, with the cardamom being the most interesting part. At five hours, I sense the nutmeg and the musky phase begins. At nine, it stays soft with vanilla; I notice vetiver and patchouli but they are subtle. I’ve never felt it fully vanilla or musky. The trail from the 1.3 ml sample was moderate, leaning towards weak at the end, and lasts about ten hours. It’s a soft, woody oriental for the evening, more intimate, ideal in autumn and far from the opulence of the eighties’ Obsession.
Starts fruity, not acidic, with that cardamom giving it the most interesting touch. By five hours, the nutmeg is noticeable and that musky sensation kicks in. By nine, it remains soft with vanilla, with vetiver and patchouli lurking but very discreetly. I’ve never sensed it as fully vanilla or purely musky. The trail, from the entire 1.3 ml sample, was moderate and weakened considerably towards the end; longevity hovers around ten hours. It’s a soft, woody oriental for the evening, more intimate, ideal in autumn and far from the opulence of the eighties’ Obsession.
Sweet and cloying, leaning towards very feminine. The pear scent doesn’t quite excite me. A pity it carries the name Obsession, especially when its older sister is one of the fragrances I like most in my collection.
Very sweet and cloying, with a look of being too feminine. The pear note doesn’t quite convince me. What a pity it bears the name Obsession when its older sister is one of the fragrances I love most in my collection.
It reminds me a lot of Bvlgari Man in Black. A serious scent, dark woods. Very nice for the evening. I find nothing synthetic in it; it has good fixative qualities and gives the impression of a cultured, willful person. Perhaps it would project more; I’d like people to look with a face saying ‘that man is interesting’. Duration of 6 to 8 hours. I don’t see it as bad for going out at night; it’s not for waking up after a party. It does its job well. It projects for the first two hours and then becomes intimate. It’s not a masterpiece like the classic Obsession, but it’s very liked for evening occasions. Rating: 8/10.
In the opening, it smells of sparkling grapefruit; I already sense the pear, but not sweet, rather sharp. Over time, I notice the fruit with the nutmeg, perhaps too much; I perceive it this way until the end. On my skin, it projects more than the average for Calvin Klein, that is, well. I would define it as an ultra-bad with nutmeg and a sweet but rare/different touch that gives it that note. Scent: 8. Projection: 7. Longevity: according to…
ULTRA MALE* sorry
On the opening, it smells of sparkling grapefruit, then I feel the pear (not sweet, but sharp). After a while, I notice the fruit with the nutmeg, perhaps too much towards the end. On my skin, it projects more than the average Calvin Klein, that is, well. I’d define it as an ultra-male with nutmeg and a touch of sweet but rare/different scent. Scent: 8. Projection: 7. Longevity: according to…
I just bought it blind for that pear note and I loved it. It has a fruity sweetness without being cloying. It doesn’t remind me of anything in my collection. I detect the nutmeg very softly. It seems very balanced, nocturnal, but also suitable for a rainy day. Very pleasantly surprised to be a CK. FOR WHAT IT’S WORTH, I RECOMMEND IT. Scent for 25 years and nothing too mass-market.
Fragrancefran! If you liked it, look after it well or buy another bottle… it’s discontinued! Greetings and blessings.
I bought it blindly for the pear note and have loved it. It has a fruity sweetness without being cloying; it doesn’t remind me of anything in my collection. The nutmeg is very soft and the balance is brilliant; it’s nocturnal but also suitable for rainy days. Very surprised being a CK. For the price, I recommend it. For ages 25 and up, and not too mass-market.
Obsession Night by Calvin Klein: A gift from my wife, which I appreciate. The opening is fruity, slightly synthetic but pleasant. Once it dries down, it’s more enjoyable. It’s for personal enjoyment or very intimate wear; it projects the minimum, feels weak and lacks power. I find it an apathetic aroma. Frankly, it bores me; it offers nothing outstanding. It doesn’t smell bad, it’s just that it hardly smells and doesn’t turn heads. It’s a work that passes by in the alley of the forgettable. I don’t understand how Calvin Klein can produce such mediocre proposals. I know scents from modest brands (Jafra, Avon, Le’Bell, CyZone, Natura, Antonio Banderas, Axe, Adidas) that have done much better. The fact that they discontinued it is good. For me, it’s disappointing and dispensable. Scent: 6.5, Projection: 2.0, Longevity: max 5-6 hours sillage. Not recommended.
I bought this men’s perfume for the woody scent, but it was a mistake. It’s spicy at the end and feels like vanilla (which I don’t like). I finished it, but I’ll never buy it again. I didn’t like it at all.
I bought this men’s perfume because I like woody notes, but I think it was a mistake. In the end, it’s spicy and has a faint vanilla scent, which I don’t like. Nevertheless, I finished the bottle, but I won’t buy it again; I didn’t like it at all.
It was my first perfume, given to me by my brother; a half-empty bottle from his rich girlfriend’s cousin. He got married and left the bottle with a quarter of the contents at home; it was my treasure at sixteen with a tight budget, having a ‘expensive’ perfume was great. Obviously, I knew nothing about fragrances. Now I’m entering the world, and although I don’t know much, I know it’s not the best. I’m thinking of buying another, but I doubt it. I’d do it for nostalgia, for what it represents, rather than for quality. I found it on Amazon, discontinued, someone sells it occasionally (it appears and disappears in days, on Amazon Mexico). It has a good price; I remember loving the scent, but I know it didn’t have much projection, only close to the skin. Personally, I don’t recommend it, but if you want to collect something discontinued, it might be a good idea. Who knows, perhaps in 5-10 years it will be a good piece.
This was my first perfume. It was a gift for my brother (a half-empty bottle from his girlfriend’s rich cousin). He got married and the bottle stayed with me, with a quarter of the contents left in the house. At 16, with money tight, having a ‘expensive’ perfume was a treasure. Now that I’ve dived into the world of fragrances, I know it’s not the best. I’ve thought about buying another, but I doubt it. I’d only do it for nostalgia, not quality. I’ve seen it on Amazon (it appears and disappears in Mexico). It has a good price, I loved the scent, but I know it lacked projection, only sillage. I wouldn’t recommend it, but if you’re looking for a discontinued scent to collect, it might serve. Perhaps in 5-10 years it’ll be an interesting piece.
I picked this up in 2010 after trying a decant back in 2007; for me, it’s an effervescent and sparkling fragrance thanks to the bergamot, and I still don’t understand why they stopped producing it.
I picked this up in 2010 after trying a decant back in 2007. To me, it smells of sparkle and fizz thanks to the grapefruit. I don’t understand how they managed to pull it from the market.
