  This perfume transports me to the Obispo Street library in Old Havana, opposite San José bakery and Taquechel pharmacy. It’s a potent blend of roses and saffron that, when dry, smells of old, withered roses—like that one you kept in a book out of love, now smelling of dust and time alongside the aged paper. I’m not sure if it’s the memory, but it hit me hard. I adore roses, yet I wouldn’t wear something that evokes such longing. It’s complicated, nothing more than a museum piece that needs testing before blind buying.

  Avenue Perfumista is a distinct, deep, and intellectual rose, with a bitter herbal note of yerba mate or perhaps hyssop that gives it character. The ingredients are top-notch, with brutal longevity and projection: one drop and I notice it strongly for 15 hours. Although marketed for women, I see it as unisex. Give it a try; whatever your opinion, it will be a unique experience.
