Profundum +: A Slow-Burning Incense of Woods, Paper and Marble
Composed by Dominik Schneider and introduced in 2026, Profundum + from Profundum is a fragrance for women and men built around a single material: incense.
Rather than bright or ceremonial, it feels shaded and textural — conifer air and elemi at first, then myrrh and well-worn paper, settling on cedar, oakmoss and cool stone. Dry, woody and balsamic throughout.
Up top there is incense with black fir, cypress, elemi and waffle. The fir and cypress suggest a damp, green forest edge, while elemi keeps things lifted and resinous.
The waffle note is kept restrained and savoury-sweet in a toasted sense, softening the incense rather than sweetening it. It gives comfort without turning gourmand.
Through the heart, incense is joined by myrrh, spiced notes and an old-books accord. The myrrh is balmy and smooth, the spice is muted warmth, and the books impression is dusty, dry and distinctly literary.
The drydown holds incense beside cedar, oakmoss, marble and woody notes. Cedar lends a pencil-shaving neatness, oakmoss adds mossy, earthy shade, and marble reads as polished and mineral.
In character it spans fresh spice and warm spice, with aromatic, amber, earthy and smoky undertones. The progression is even and contemplative, favouring depth over contrast.
It should appeal to wearers drawn to restrained incense, dry woods and library atmospheres, and to anyone after a unisex scent with little floralcy or overt sweetness. Particularly suited to lovers of mossy, aromatic and balsamic compositions for the colder months.
Profundum + is coherent and calm: one central resin followed from woodland to marble. If you favour understated, reflective perfumery with a mineral edge, it deserves a careful wearing.
