Rahaf… another incredible find from Gulf Orchid. The packaging is understated, avoiding the kitsch often found in many Arab perfumes, with a stunning deep blue; the white bottle is heavy, beautiful and elegant, sealed with a solid cap that closes securely. Upon spraying, the high concentration of essential oils is immediately noticeable: the skin feels velvety. It opens with a blast of sweet, sparkling citrus, yet isn’t a typical citrus fragrance. Lime, tangerine and bergamot evoke the sensation of drinking a sweet, fizzy soda, radiating joy and optimism. A luminous and refined scent. Emerging from the green, acidic lime peels are Paraguayan jasmine and gardenia, alongside roses. These aren’t overpowering roses, but soft ones, like talcum powder or old makeup, latent and voluptuous right against the skin for hours. All the notes are bathed in a huge layer of heavy, warm honey, like when it’s poured over freshly made pancakes, or like pharmacy caramels that bind and highlight everything. Cedar and patchouli in the base add a resinous, persistent, warm and deep touch that sets it apart among florals. Rahaf is super refined, feminine, sensual and elegant, evolves incredibly, lasts and projects more than expected. I see it suitable for any season and occasion. The quality-price ratio is optimal. It smells very much like Le Parfum by Elie Saab to me, though perhaps the difference becomes more noticeable in the dry-down after a few hours; but given the price, Rahaf can be reapplied without guilt as many times as needed. A great discovery, I declare myself a huge fan.
