Another almost unknown gem that stands as a pillar of classic perfumery. Roccobarocco boasts a complex and captivating profile: oakmoss, cedar, and bergamot lend it a dry, earthy, slightly musky character. It’s an 80s floral chypre, almost exuberant, with a very distinctive green note that evolves over time, revealing different nuances as it settles. It opens with a green, creamy mousse of juicy citrus; I’ve rarely smelled anything like it—the experience is incredible. When the flowers emerge, they’re wrapped in velvet, none dominating. It’s a delicate yet unmistakable floral explosion that lasts for hours, neither sweet nor artificial. The trail is noticeable but not overwhelming. The dry-down is hard to describe: I’ve never heard of such a creamy, warm chypre, unwoody and not dragged by vanilla. It has density and richness throughout. Wonderfully balanced yet peculiar. The aldehydes give it a unique presence, and the hint of vanilla leaves a sensual aftertaste. If you have the personality to wear it without complexes, it offers timeless elegance, perfect for those seeking something classic and intriguing.
