If you read the notes and then smell the perfume, it’s as if you’ve picked the wrong bottle. But when compared to Philosykos or Fico di Amalfi, it makes sense: it smells of fig, fig, and more fig. Perhaps the molecules are aiming for that effect, or it’s a playful prank, but it is overwhelmingly fig. I don’t smell the citrus; they merely add brightness. After hours, the tone drops and you can subtly detect the wood and vetiver. Bear in mind, it’s a sweet fig. The longevity is deceptive: projection fades quickly and it sits close to the skin. By five or six hours, it’s almost gone, though it leaves a few lingering sips. With Jean-Claude Ellena at the helm, the quality is unquestionable. If you enjoy Philosykos or Fico di Amalfi and seek quality, better performance, and value, give it a try. Even if you’re a fig fan. Au revoir!
The opening is powerful due to the eucalyptus, with a masculine vibe at first, but it soon softens as the citrus and cedar take over. There’s no fig listed in the notes, yet in the dry-down, that’s what stands out most: fresh and juicy, very similar to Fico di Amalfi. Santa Cruz is a worthy substitute, on the same wavelength, with a longevity on my skin that Aqua di Parma simply can’t match. Le Couvent is drier and more potent; although unisex, I believe the male demographic will appreciate it greatly.
Santa Cruz opens with a sweet citrus air, yet retains that soapy, camphorated touch that defines it. It quickly evolves into something woody and milky, evoking those green figs from Philosykos without quite copying them. Although it lasts over nine hours in summer, it initially smells like bath bubbles. It’s my first wardrobe staple I’ve regretted finishing. Ideal for spring/summer, unisex, and effortless. I don’t detect the citrus from the notes, only that sweet, green fig. A gem for fig lovers. Pleasant: 8/10 Interesting: 7/10 Versatile: 8/10 Original: 6/10
