First, the name sounds appealing, but it doesn’t quite fit because the scent isn’t a static snapshot or a one-off burst. It’s no easy listen, so if you’re after something commercial, perhaps avoid the risk. The opening makes you smile: spicy and distinctly wintry, like strolling through a Christmas market. What truly surprises are the unusual floral notes, slightly sharp and peppery with an oriental twist and a hint of alcohol, reminiscent of a highly fragrant flower floating in a glass of liquor. You’ll likely get used to it quickly, but then the woody and resinous notes take over, and that’s where it gets tricky; for about half an hour, it smells of strange curry, as if the sugar has been removed from a spice blend and replaced with cloves, flowers, and cinnamon. Once past this phase, it becomes very resinous, and that’s when you decide whether to keep it or not. This lasts for hours until the scent softens; patchouli and tonka bean finally dominate, and the mood improves. The lasting power of Selfie on my skin is around six to seven hours, more than enough for a long night. It’s an interesting and uncommon fragrance.
