Sugar Leather by Une Nuit Nomade

Sugar Leather by Une Nuit Nomade is that perfume which, when you put it on, makes you feel wrapped in something warm and cosy. The leather is soft, creamy, nothing harsh, and the sweet caramel note makes it very pleasant. What strikes me most is the cinnamon: it gives that spicy point you notice instantly and lasts for hours, without being strong or invasive. On my skin I find it close and enveloping, with a gourmand wink that makes you want to return to it. It’s not a serious or classic leather scent; it’s more of a perfume that accompanies, comforts, and leaves that warm feeling that I love now with the cold. One of my favourites and a must-have.

Sugar Leather is spectacular and the name fits perfectly. It smells of leather accompanied mainly by caramel and cinnamon. It’s balsamic and super creamy, sometimes almost lactonic, as if sugar had been sprinkled on top. Don’t be alarmed: although leather is the star, it doesn’t smell animalic, nor is it rough or markedly masculine; it’s excellently balanced. For me, it’s totally unisex. Ideal for cold climates, especially for night outings. It lasts 8-10 hours on the skin with wide projection and sillage, generating compliments wherever you go. It has similarities with Angel’s Share, but in my opinion, it’s even better. I bought it half-and-half with my partner because it won us both over.

I liked it a lot. The opening is better than the dry down: at first, it smells like a mix of sugared leather and spices which was spectacular. Then, in the dry down, it’s hard to smell the leather, or at least in my first test; the cinnamon dominates everything, a slightly alcoholic cinnamon. It’s neither Angel’s Share nor Ambre Tabac, but it plays in the same league: it has less liquor than Kilian and less amber than Josier, and definitely, between the three, I’d choose this one. The house’s concept is exemplary: on their website, you can buy formats from 2.5ml to 100ml and choose to arrive without a box to save money. Their branding is the best I’ve seen in years; for that alone, it deserves respect.

There’s nothing that angers me more than trying a fragrance and having an olfactory memory of having heard it before, without knowing its name. It took me some time, but I must say that this Sugar Leather resembles Zara’s Unexpected fresh spicy quite a bit. It smells of tobacco, spices, some leather, and slightly alcoholic. It’s a formal scent, polished, and preferably used in cold seasons. The pity is that Unexpected fresh spicy was never heard of again, but if it still existed, there would be no logic in buying this Sugar Leather for the 160€ they ask. It lasts about 7 hours with a generous sillage for almost 2 hours. As Zara doesn’t re-release gems like that one, A Perfume, Bergamot & Leather Spritz, etc., at least they sell their formulas to someone who wants to relaunch them and make some money.
