TH Bold by Tommy Hilfiger

Smells like pure orange and other citrus fruits, but nothing else. It doesn’t last even a minute; it fades as soon as you apply it. The scent is rich for hot days, but what a pity it doesn’t last.

Rodrigo Flores-Roux already gave us this citrus-mineral structure in Clinique’s Happy. He later evolved the concept in John Varvatos Artisan, where he unleashed the citrus and mineral vibe in Blue and Aqua. All of that shares a soul with this Bold from TH. Although it’s similar to Artisan, here the sea salts are brighter, filtered through a mandarin that blends with citrus, jasmine, and cardamom. The explosion is super energetic and pleasant. It’s an intense cologne with blue illusions, like freshly cut citrus hanging from a branch under the sun, leaving that bitter, vegetal scent. Performance is medium-low, good value for money. Very versatile, perfect for evening or any engagement. I loved it.

I’m dying for this men’s fragrance; it’s fresh, pretty, pleasant, and short-lived.

A pleasant fresh fragrance where orange and creamy white flowers predominate. The dry-down is attractive with sophisticated sandalwood and vetiver. It feels very masculine, suitable for multiple uses, with acceptable performance. For its range, it’s more than acceptable. It conveys energy and optimism. Very good.

Tuesday, 9 April 2019, from Santo Domingo: it smells good, but what’s going on? It’s pure citrus! In the TH Bold by Tommy Hilfiger Men, the note that stands out most is the grapefruit; the citrus is the absolute protagonist. I didn’t love it; it was just another one. It does work well for daily wear in summer or extreme heat. It feels sweet and fresh. Scent 7/10, longevity 7/10, trail 7/10, and projection 8/10.

I wouldn’t classify the TH Bold by Tommy Hilfiger in the woody family as stated on its sheet, but rather in a slightly woody citrus family. Although woody scents usually carry sandalwood and cedar, that’s not enough to classify it as such when these notes are just secondary support. I consider it belongs to the hesperidic family because from start to finish it’s defined by the citrus: a top of lemon, orange, grapefruit, and mandarin; a bubbly touch of bergamot; an immediate sensation of freshness, cleanliness, and joy. Imagine walks by the seaside with white muslins, pastel tulle, parasols, and wide-brimmed straw hats, bathed in Mediterranean light. I add ‘slightly woody’ to this citrus cologne because in its development it’s supported by cedar and sandalwood, though not very convincingly. It’s a cologne without pretensions, refreshing, clean, and of a certain quality if we frame it as a cologne de toilette. As such, its trail and longevity are low and skin-close. Its scent is fresh and agreeable; even children and girls can use it.

TH Bold doesn’t aim to revolutionise, but it does its job: it’s pleasant and energetic. I agree with Darkbeat and facu22; it’s the perfect cologne for post-gym or after the pool—summery, fresh, clean and fairly linear. The performance is modest, but that’s not an issue as it doesn’t try to deceive; it’s cheap and designed for a short while. It’s not original, but as a synthetic citrus it has its point, being invigorating and dynamic. Straight out of the bottle, it smells of lime, one of the few citrus notes that doesn’t include xD, and last summer someone asked if I was wearing Puig’s Azur xD. The best thing about Bold is Nadal. Magnificent, Nadal! 6.5/10

Yesterday my brother-in-law let me try his gift, with his permission, hehe. On first sniff, the opening is citrusy, slightly acidic and it tickles the nose, but then it softens into a fresh floral veil where jasmine and a touch of lavender stand out, all over a soft woody base. It’s very linear, almost the same throughout except for the more intense opening; afterwards it’s effervescent cardamom with flowers and wood. Ideal for summer, fresh and sparkling, though nothing revolutionary. It bears a strong resemblance to the classic ‘Heno de Pravia’ shower gel, but is more potent, natural and of better quality. It lasts about 5 or 6 hours with a low sillage. If you like this style, give it a try, but don’t expect anything groundbreaking.

It’s like the expensive version of a body wash. It doesn’t smell bad, but it has nothing special about it; it’s very simple and utterly unremarkable.

A rich but one-dimensional fragrance, like bathing in orange and tangerine. I’ve worn it for 8 hours and can still smell it close to my skin, with a perceptible trail. The price-to-quality ratio is excellent; it’s a clean, fresh scent that makes you feel good. I estimate a longevity of around 10 hours.

What a curious scent. I tried it in-store and, before even seeing the notes, the smell hit me like opening a tangerine or squeezing its juice; then I noticed a white flower, which turned out to be jasmine and boronia. The cardamom adds a soft, powdery touch. I haven’t worn it enough yet, but yes, it’s a citrus explosion—not particularly masculine, more unisex and very summery.
