  Thaty launched in Brazil in 1980, back when foreign perfumes in Latin America were the preserve of politicians, the wealthy, or drug dealers. National brands like Jean Pascal or O Boticario emerged to offer quality at fair prices. Thaty was cheap, smelled good, and was fresh—something crucial in Brazil’s hot and humid climate. It opens with powdery lavender and green geranium, reminiscent of insect repellent. Then comes a vaporous, almost invisible rose and eucalyptus flower with its mentholated, medicinal scent. The white musk doesn’t dominate; it merely accompanies the fragrance until it fades. It reminds me of a medieval lavender water blending feminine and masculine flowers, resulting in an almost unisex scent. It doesn’t stand out for longevity or sillage; it smells and lasts like an apothecary’s headache remedy. It’s clean yet cosy, like a clean, used white t-shirt for sleeping. Presentation: 10/10 (heavy, quality bottle). Longevity: 3/10 (about 2-3 hours). Sillage: 3/10 (close to the skin for an hour). Originality: 7/10 (unique in its range and price). Versatility: 5/10 (informal only). I use it all year at home, though it’s too fresh for cold weather. Personal taste: 9/10. Would I buy again?: Absolutely.

  It’s a super aquatic perfume, ideal for cooling down in the heat. As it dries, it leaves a slightly powdery base that smells a bit like baby powder. The longevity is minimal; on my skin, it lasts a maximum of two or three hours. I’ve had this for over ten years and was gifted a new bottle; the formula hasn’t changed at all, only the bottle now comes with a spray nozzle.
